Quote:One of these five requirements must be met to vote in federal elections:

Minimum Income (Must be national average based on cost of living at location) (This does not include household income)

Degree (Associates or higher)

In-Education or Skill training

Certified to vote (basically a CLEP on US Government)

Federally Employed (Incl. Military)

Just because everyone has the ability to vote doesn't mean they should. The Athenians believed that to vote you MUST be educated in politics, government, economics, and foreign affairs and you must contribute to the state. There was a reason for this. Just my opinion.

What if you are disabled and cant work or have an acute learning disability?
America has failed in voting for one simple reason:

A. There is a disease on the verge of becoming a pandemic.

B. There is a group hell bent on the destruction of western civilization.

C. The leader of the United States thinks his primary job is fundraising. Not to combat A or B,  but to combat half of the country he is supposed to be running, but is not running because he is too busy fundraising to combat the aforementioned.

Fundraisers against Ebola - 0

Fundraisers against islam terrorism - 0

Fundraisers against conservatives - 2-3 per week.

Yeah, liberalism is awesome......

Or what if a person is highly educated and accomplished? Bill Gates would be deemed unworthy of voting because he's not a federal employee.

Ummm, you do realize this works both ways right?
Quoting does not work with this version of internet explorer.

jameis_fried_chicken - You can take the government CLEP and gain voting rights. If you have an acute learning disability and cannot understand what you are voting for, you should not vote.

homebiscuit - You can take the government CLEP and gain voting rights.

Reading comprehension, folks.

So a federal employee who doesn't know left from right gets a free pass, but Bill Gates has to take a test. Got it.

Ha!
If we considered History just as important as math, science and English, I think it would alleviate the problem of uneducated voters.

...it'd also help if candidates actually explained what they were planning to do, rather than viciously attack one another with stupid ads.

"BOB WHITE DOES NOT SUPPORT WOMEN!  HE SAID THAT BEING A WORKING MOM IS NOT A REAL JOB!"

"JANE SMITH WANTS TO OUTLAW ABORTIONS!  EVEN IN CASES OF RAPE AND INCEST!"

"Bob White supports job growth.  How's he going to do it?  Spoilers!"

"Jane Smith supports campaign finance reform.  How's she going to do it?  Spoilers!"

Federal employees and any member of a public sector union should not be allowed to vote in federal elections. It's the equivalent of the fox guarding the hen house. You end up with "public servant" politicians (management) and "public sector" employees (labor) colluding to screw the tax payers (share holders).

Unfortunately, Bob and Jane will say almost anything in their platform to get elected and often do the exact opposite of their campaign "promises" while in office (2 of the most egregious examples: No new taxes- GH Bush; You can keep your Dr.- Obama).
