His team is on a downward trend and Jones states that he has personal issues to deal with.

On a side note, I always thought that if any program could come back from a death penalty, SMU could do it. They have a big geography advantage and it would seem that they could easily tap into the local Texas talent. But no one seems to be able to make it happen.

He did a great job returning SMU back to some semblance of relevancy which was good to see. Hopefully they can bring in a coach who can continue to elevate the program to higher heights.

He had a few decent years and brought in some good receivers like Emmanuel Sanders and Aldrick Robinson. But like Mike Price at UTEP, success is hard to sustain at "mid-major" schools in Texas.
