Quote:Once again I'll say 3 very team has those moments. Drops are an excuse. Did they hurt? Sure they did. Did a couple drops cost them the game? No.
No matter how you slice it Henne isn't very good so it really doesn't matter.
Actually those drops could have cost them the game. Hurns and Lee each had drops that were drive killers. That forced us to punt or kick long FG. If those are catches we could have been up even bigger, or at least scored to stop their momentum.
Henne didn't have any throw that "cost" us the game either.
The wide open Lewis that Henne couldn't hit in the 4th quarter? C'mon... my grandmother could have made that throw and she's old....

after seeing it again, it was definitely catchable

Curse Henne for floating the ball over the defender to where it hit the TE in the one place we know he can't catch the ball, his hands.

Yes, when your TE is running wide open, definitely making him lay out so he can just get his fingertips on the ball is an excellent throw. That's exactly how you coach it.

It's funny because other teams' TEs and WRs do it all the time. The only thing Goofy Gloves Lewis does is try to high hurdle defensive backs and drop passes, over and over and over and over again.
I think we're talking about two completely different passes.... I'm referring to the one at the end of the 4th where he missed the easy throw to Lewis.
That was a horrible pass and even worse effort to catch it. Henne and Lewis both failed miserably on that play.

Henne had 3 good throws all game. The rest were a mix of okay, poor and terrible. That one was poor. Guys running wide open 3 yards away should not need to lay out for your pass.
Yes, but it's not like Henne had a defender in his face.. It wasn't rushed and his receiver was wide open, it was just another of Henne's errant throws that we've all come to know and despise.

I'm not sure I'd peg him at more than one single good throw, the one to Hurns at the sideline from out of the Jaguars own end zone. I can't really consider a pass thrown less than 10 yards in the air good, those are simply expected to be on target. It's much more telling when a QB has trouble completing even those.
Which other two passes did you think were good?

I thought the pass down the right sideline to Lee that was dropped/broken up was good. Admittedly, if he had lead him more, Lee doesn't have to slow down and it's not broken up, but it was close enough and definitely should have been caught.
The pass over the middle to extend the drive that Hurns fumbled (they called incomplete though) was good, I thought. It was on time and in the right spot.

The first one I don't recall being a good throw, but I can understand you might think it is in spite of it not being perfect.
The second one you list was actually just another short (10 yards or less) pass if I recall correctly. This is the NFL, guys don't get credit for throwing short passes. Even Pennington could do that and he had a dead arm.

I thought the second over the middle was longer, but I could be recalling it incorrectly. Either way, it should have been a conversion and was the right throw, which for Henne is a good throw.

For Henne it was an exceptional game, but we can't fall into the trap of basing performance evaluation on an individual's perceived ceiling.
Henne is bad, much like Gabbert he can make a good throw from time to time, and can have good games relative to his mean, but it's not something that changes the actual valuation of him as a QB.

I understand your point. I'm not arguing that it was a good game for him. I don't think even 3 good throws a game is near acceptable. I just don't have a problem giving him credit for the few I thought were the right pass to the right spot at the right time. Even if it wasn't a difficult pass, it should have moved the chains, which is the exception for him. The rest of the throws are plenty to base an argument on him not playing well.
Quote:my problem with henne and the coaching staff is that they seem like they don't actually evaluate his game on how he plays and looks on the field. it seems like they go home, look at the stats and say"Well that looks good," at call it a day. henne had one good quarter sunday, one quarter. after the defense couldn't gift the offense anymore short yardage field position, he remembered who he was. funny thing is, i knew it would happen. on one hand i was excited at what was happening in the first quarter, but at the same time i wished it wasn't happening. the reason is simple, i knew henne wasn't gonna keep it up. low and behold, the second quarter his play fell off. i knew right then in there because of his play in the first quarter, the coaching staff had something to fall back on when people bring his play up to the coaches. henne is a stat guy, hell make himself look somewhat good, but the team will most likely lose. he looks just good enough to start though, so he can say it wasn't his fault. but, do the coaches not know that there are 4 quarters to a football game? don't just look at one, and evaluate it, look at the full body of work. when they get home, henne will get booed off the field.
God, I hope Gus reads this and realizes that he has so much to learn from the fans. I'm guessing he sends you a thank-you note. (

Quote:All 3 drops were on deeper passes. If all 3 were caught, the entire dynamic of the game could have changed. We'll never know.
Could have changed? It most certainly WOULD have changed.
Quote:Could have changed? It most certainly WOULD have changed.
It's not a guarantee, but more than likely it would have. They could have completed any one of those 3 passes, or even all 3 and still collapsed.

Seems like your answer on everything. At 4-13, he has a lot to learn from somewhere.
