Using Toby on stretch plays has got to stop, it's putting a square peg in a round hole, enough is enough.
The play design is for the Guard and Tackle to make a hole for him to run through, or block the LB's before he gets all the way to the side. Once you run towards the side, you don't have anymore room to run and you definitely lose yardage.
I think it's more of the OL's fault, and then Toby not having that explosive play-making ability like Lesean McCoy has.
Throw it out. Toby should just be going north-south.
But drob works 10x better on it than gerhart, so it cant be all on the oline

He was going that direction when an Eagle got in his face. The problem was nobody blocked the defensive lineman.
I was actually impressed with Gerheart. he ran hard despite a bum ankle.
Gerhart is solid in blitz pickup, so he must be in there.

When I saw him trying to limp to the sideline only to realize he couldn't make it that far, I was afraid he would not come back in the first half.
I don't like the play either but I saw plenty of those plays where the line whiffed on multiple guys.
Toby is what Greg Jones was in 2006

Agreed. The line is allowing penetration on just about every play right now. It will hopefully get better with some time.
