Did we stop pushing the ball downfield in the second half? That's one thing Blake does well,he's ALWAYS looking to push the ball downfield.
We clearly missed Cyp.Big difference when he went out.Prosinski is terrible in coverage.
Quote:Maybe we still think it's the preseason. Our starters play like starters in the 1st half and then the EAGLES O-LINE back-ups come into play.
Corrected. And we still couldn't dominate the DL.

I agree 100%. You can't have a QB that is content. He must strive for more. And also, Cyp being out hurt us dearly. But dont forget Evans. Evans is way more compitent than Prosinski.
I am not overreacting to this loss like most folks are. I was excited in the 1st half. As most people should be. But, I knew that offensively, how Kelly runs his offense. You shouldn't have gotten your hopes up too much with a young football team out there like ours. I think it's evident that we need to improve in the running game. 25 carries for 61 yards with Gearhart was tough, I couldn't stand listening to 1010XL this morning. They just trashed this entire team. Not one time did Jeff or Spencer bring up the fact that Gearhart may have tweeked his knee in the 1st half which may have impacted his abiility in the 2nd. Not one time did they mention that not only did Cyprien go out early with an apparent head injury, but also, Evans, his back-up, also went out, and it was probably Pronsinski, your 3rd string SS, that gave up that huge coverage meltdown which allowed Maclin to get free. The other dissapointing thing to see was Sproles getting away with murder on 4th and 1 in the no huddle with the middle of the field wide-open. The staff has to be faster than that to react and save the momentum with a timeout.
Other than that. Relax. It's week one. Nobody had us pegged to win that game. I didn't. The Eagles are expected to be great this year. And they showed why in just one half of football. Look to the next game folks....
Good post Caldrac.
We knew going in:
- our OL was young , inexperienced and in for trouble
- McLendon was a journeyman
- Henne was Henne
- the Eagles were good
- our WR's were young and inexperienced too
- Marcedes Lewis has bad hands
- we were a 10 pt underdog
- we were on the road
- not only on the road but in one of the most hostile NFL stadiums
- etc
First half was great fun, the final result not unexpected.
Nice optimism.
But the first half was fun...and it was, made the second half that much more miserable.
Something like getting a good buzz on, picking up a chick, having a good time that night.....waking up and it's Rosie O'Donnell
The day after...my gut is still sour. Ugh.
Ok ...Redskins next...winnable game...and we are back to yelling Dooooovaaaaal
<p class="">I wasn't surprised by their performance yesterday.

This is a very level-headed post and I agree 100%. Jeff P destroyed the coaching staff and the team like we didnt compete. Now the second half was bismol yes but I take the positive from the negative. The first quarter was surprising enough.
Did anyone mention we had 5 sacks? When was the last time we had 5 sacks in one game?

That was very scary, I mean most of me felt he just got knocked out... but for a second there only a second I thought dang he could be dead.
We have the same record as the Patriots, the Ravens, the clots, the Pack.
I didn't expect us to win the game against Philly. People got their hopes up and a lil too excited after a stellar D performance in the first half.
My reaction is, realization that we're better than we were but not good enough, so I'm not upset.
I was a little upset yesterday but I quickly got over it.
I know some disagree but I think playing Bortles would be the best idea. I think he just allows Fisch to access different plays in the book. Let him take his lumps. We're not gonna win a bunch of games anyway.
I think Bowanko should start at C. If we're gonna have mistakes (false start on the center, really?) at least a rookie has an excuse.
I'm still excited to play the 'skins. I think we can win that game. Their offense isn't as good as Philly's. Our D has shown promise. Their D isn't bad but we should be able to score points if we can just convert some 3rd downs. I imagine that'll be an emphasis this week.
Well, Bortles now has one game of holding the clipboard and wearing his baseball cap backwards under his belt. I wonder how that experience has helped him mature into our starting QB?
Also, if Bortles had played and had been injured, guess what? He'd have to stand on the sidelines holding a clipboard with his ball cap backwards, gaining more of that valuable sideline experience.
The team only played well for 1 quarter, and then.....
The first half, we saw next year's team.
The second half, we saw last year's team.
So the big question is, which one is this year's team.

Both.
The offense never actually looked good. We let the score get us excited about the play. Hurns did look good, but overall our two TDs were due to the D spotting us in great field position. Ignore the turnover points, and what did the offense do on their own? 3 points all game.
The D looked phenomenal, until 1) they started getting gassed from constantly being on the field and 2) Prosinski.
So that's what we have. The D will keep us in games, until they can't. The offense will do pretty much nothing and run back off the field.
My reaction was slight disappointment but only because of the way the game played out. I certainly did not expect a win but when we jumped up it was a little disappointing to lose it the way we did.
My second reaction or thought was what a wonderful learning experience for the rookies to emphasize what Gus always preaches. You don't ever got it.
But damn man that first half had our watch party rocking. I'll have more of that please.

I actually lol'ed. You sir, made my day.
What I took from the game (Good and bad)-
-Chris Pros is still garbage. Every scheme he's been terrible. Came in and made a tackle for loss and then gave up the long bomb because he was nowhere insight and Maclin ran right past him.
Jonathon Cyprien is definitely taking that next step. Before the head injury, coverage was much, much better in the secondary and it gave our d-line that extra second they needed.
-Tackling made me sick.
-The rookies came to play. Both Hurns and Lee were getting open. But both of them dropped drive extending 3rd down passes that were definitely catchable.
-Marcedes is NOT clutch. The 4th down pass was definitely floated but it hit his gloves and him, being the VET, needs to make those plays.
-The o-line is what we thought it was...but the continents are moving faster than Toby could ever dream of running.
- Chad was chad. When the defense blessed the offense, they delivered. The one time they drove the field to any extent, coming from our own 1 yard line, we settled for a 49 yard field goal. Part of the reason we couldn't move the chains was because Henne was making the wrong reads and really put our rookies in positions tough catches. Even on the 4th down play to Marcades, which was a good call IMO, Henne floats the freaking ball. The other part being the fact that we had NO run game to speak of. All in all, the things you don't really wanna see from your veterans on offense, especially when one is QB, is what choked our offense yesterday.
On to the Redskins
