Meh. I still think they're both there one more year

As of now, both are still there.

One possibility that comes to mind is maybe Jim Irsay is waiting to see what the Texans do this coming Saturday. If the Raiders beat the Texans and Bill O'Brien becomes available, that might be what leads to change with the Colts.

Hoping they are there a minimum of 3 more years.

I'm pretty sure that's what you meant, so I went ahead and fixed it for you.
Colts need to upgrade 95% of their defensive players.

Give Luck a better O-Line and he will cut through defenses.

The Colts scare me because of Luck. He is the team. The roster has like 2 A players 2 B players and the rest are C or lower.

Colts are planning to bring back HC Chuck Pagano for 2017 season, as @alexmarvez reported.

...............

Assuming this becomes reality, the next question is will Ryan Grigson be retained as GM?

What you mentioned certainly makes a strong case that the Colts would be better off going in another direction at GM. Andrew Luck is probably surrounded by less overall roster talent than any QB who is considered in the top half of the NFL.
The Colts issues do not fall on the head coach. They have some serious gaps in player personnel.

NFL.com posted this morning they both will be back

100% Grigson is horrible. I live in Indiana 45 mins from Indy and sentiment here is most people are cool with Pagano staying but not okay with Grigson. But these Colts people here are as fair weather as it gets. Luckly for them the weather has been bad like 4 out of the last 25 years.

If this proves to be the case, there would no longer be any doubt if there was previously that Jim Irsay is much more patient with GMs and HCs than his father was.

It seems like the ideal situation for the Colts would be to get a GM with a tremendous reputation like Bill Polian had. Who like Polian wouldn't put up with Jim Irsay meddling in football decisions. IMO, the worst decision that Irsay made was firing Bill Polian. W/o Polian, the Colts would probably not have survived in Indianapolis.

Problem with Polian he only looked for offense and put next to nothing into defense. With that said he did get screwed by always have his top safety (Bob Sanders) on the injury list week in and week out. I would say Manning saved from being in LA or where ever. Hell even with Manning Irsay said he is moving unless the city built a new stadium. So guess what say hello to Lucas Oil Stadium. Big Grin

Not sure if I entirely buy that.

He brought in Freeney, Mathis, Sanders, and Antoine Bethea.

Clearly they were an offense dominated team and they typically built to that strength, but I can't say Polian brought in next to nothing on defense.

Grigson, OTOH...let's just say I'm glad he is being retained.
At least one Colts fan is not happy with the decision to maintain the status quo.

Yet, if not for Bill Polian drafting Peyton Manning when many thought drafting Ryan Leaf was in the best interest of the Colts, it's hard to imagine the franchise recovering from that by the time a decision was going to be made regarding the team's future in Indianapolis.

Like Bullseye mentioned Bill Polian brought in some excellent talent on Defense. Dwight Freeney was a HOF caliber DE and Robert Mathis wasn't far behind him. The key with the Colts was building a lead and then having their top edge rushers tee off in the 4th QTR. A takeaway often resulted, which preserved a victory for the Colts.

Granted, Polian probably should have found a way to keep Mike Peterson, which worked to the Jaguars advantage both in the Jaguars signing him and the Colts losing him. The Colts also didn't have the run Defense over extended period of time that the Bucs, another Tampa Two based team, had. But when considering what the Colts had on Offense, including a great skill position players, quality at LT and C ( arguably the two most important O-Line positions to fill ), and one of the best set of edge rushers in the NFL In a long time, the contribution that Polian made for that franchise was enormous.
I think now the clots are the biggest embarrassment in the league instead of us.
