It's hard to believe that in just a few short days our beloved Jags will head to the city of brotherly love and kick off what undoubtedly will be our must successful season since the 1996 season which spawned the book Jags to Riches by legendary author John Oehser.

As we head into week one, a few questions for this year and years to come…
1) Can the Jacksonville Jaguars repeat as Ponce De Leon Cup Champions? Last years race was exhilarating, wild and down to the wire. For those not familiar with this sacred piece of hardware, the Ponce De Leon Cup is a competition amongst the top three NFL teams in the state of Florida. Competitors include the Miami Dolphins, The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and our beloved Jacksonville Jaguars. Last year, the Jags edged the Bucs in a tie breaker (tiebreaker: most points scored vs. the KC Chiefs...Jags 2, Bucs 0) winning the crown on the final day of the season. It should be noted that the Dolphins were put on probation and ruled ineligible for the Cup midway through the season after a severe bullying incident caused a grown man to cry and hightail it back to California. There is just simply no room for bullying in the NFL! The ban for the 2014 season has been lifted, and all three teams are now eligible to compete for the PDL Cup although it should be pointed out ahead of time that another episode of MRSA infections involving the Buccaneers will no doubt get them disqualified. Clean your locker rooms Tampa! The Ponce De Leon Cup is named after the Spanish Conquistador Juan Ponce De Leon who according to noted historian Bobby Bass discovered the great state of Florida in 1513 before permanently making his home in Jacksonville for the next 30 years. So to answer the question - "yes" the Jags should win this trophy going away this year and repeat as PDL Cup Champions
2) Will the Jags avoid a nightmarish start?
It is imperative that Coach Gus Bradley not pull a "John Cook" and start the year 0-2. While most would realize that there are many difference between John Cook and Coach Bradley - most noticeably that Bradley did not ride the coat tails of Terry Pettit as John Cook did and Bradley's program has gotten better each week while Cook's program has undoubtedly slid into mediocrity. Although this is clearly a case of "apples to apples", my prediction is the Jags will elevate their game and win 5 of their first 6. Relax Jags Nation - one loss in the first six is hardly a nightmarish start. I think we win our first two on the road, win our first game at home and then probably lose our 4th game at San Diego - which by the way will hardly be the players fault. There is just no way any team on the planet can overcome a schedule that sees a team going to Philly, then back to Jacksonville, then to DC, then all the way back to Jacksonville and then lets send this team all the way to the west coast where we will have them play a 3:05 game that is actually 6:05 our time. Our players will have no legs, no idea what time of day it is and then you throw in the fact we will be playing at sea level - no chance. Thanks Goodell!!!
3) Will the FXFL merger and NFL merger actually occur, and if so, how will this effect the Jags? First off, it is amazing the hype the FXFL is receiving considering the league doesn’t play a game for over 5 weeks. The FXFL appears to be ahead of the game putting teams in football starved cities - Brooklyn, Florida (Miami), Boston and Omaha make up this exciting new league. While I don’t think the two leagues will merge midstream this year, I do believe the 2015 season is a real possibility. Should this occur, my thoughts are to keep things simple, you simply add a third conference to the NFL named “America’s Conference”. This conference would be comprised of the four FXFL teams, the Jacksonville Jaguars, and the Dallas Cowboys. America’s Conference would play a triple round robin plus one cross over game vs. either an NFC team or an AFC team. The winner of the American Conference would play the winner of the AFC one year, and then the NFC (on an alternating basis) the following year to earn the rights to go to the Super Bowl. While some may say bypassing the first few rounds of the playoffs and earning what is essentially a bye to the semi finals might be a little extreme, I think it’s fair…do the other teams in the AFC and the NFC want to face the legendary Sandy Buda and the Omaha Mammouths three times every year? Do the teams in the AFC and the NFC really want to go play Boston at sold out Harvard Stadium in front of their raucous fans – I think most definitely not.
Many questions to be answered and only time will tell! Go Jags!!!
