The teal kool-aid is strong in this thread. Hope you people are right.
Quote:I should have been more clear. The link was meant to illustrate that not many would have guessed the 4-12 1995 Jags would be in the playoffs in 1996. But they were.

So - the answer to your previous question (about your scenario being a realistic possibility) is "yes."   It's realistic.  Unlikely, but realistic.

I really believe if any year resembles 1996, it is this one.
Definitely doable. I don't think the AFC is that strong this year.

Got your likely division winners (Colts, Pats, Broncos, and Bengals) then I think it's anybody's guess for the wildcard.

I think the Chiefs are in for a letdown season.

We have the talent to compete for one of the spots, but the team is just so young that experience could be their downfall.

That is why the media is mostly expecting us to be contenders NEXT year.

you don't say?
This SI writer also picked Jags to make a run in the back half of the season to make the playoffs

I think the Jaguars will play well at the end of this season, but I don't think it will be enough to get us into the postseason.

I don't think this will be comparable to the 1996 season/team, because I don't think the talent nucleus is as strong as it was then.

Then you had a young Brunell, a young Boselli, a young Jimmy Smith, an in his prime Keenan McCardell, an in his prime Leon Searcy, a young Tony Brackens, and a young Kevin Hardy.

Now, while we have some promising guys, I don't think we have the same number of Pro Bowl caliber players or higher.  I could definitely see Bortles as one.  Maybe Lee or Robinson develops into one.  Maybe Cyprien (easy TMD).

God forbid there are fans who think their team has a shot when they are playing in the weakest division in the NFL.
Looking at the schedule we face 4 teams with offenses that can put up points no matter how good our D is, imo.

Philly, Chargers, Colts, Cowboys

So let's say they outscore us. 5 losses.

If Dalton has a day without multiple INTs, Bengals are a stout D that could put a clamp on Henne.

Thats number 6.

So for playoffs, assuming the clots take the division, we'll probably need to win every other game. Including Pitt at home. Sweeping the tacks and tinhorns. And winning late in Baltimore.

If we do that we deserve to be in the playoffs.

If we get 8 wins I consider the season a great success.

Be honest.  No you don't.

Based on my previous posts, I am clearly an advocate of getting Bortles in there ASAP. If we need to lose a few games for that to happen sooner than later, I won't lose sleep.

Pardon me if I am not giddy like you people about having a career backup caliber QB as our starter. Bortles needs to be in by week 3 for us to satisfy PFT's prediction IMO.

Whose giddy about Henne starting? Where do you come up with this stuff? You constantly make things up that no one is saying.

It has been said Bortles will sit his entire rookie season by the coaching staff. Having said that and assuming it is true and they don't go back on their word, do people really think we are making the playoffs with Henne playing all year? It's just a lofty, unreasonable expectation.

All of these assumptions about playoffs are that Bortles starts sooner than later. Otherwise, its back in the top 10 next yr.

Giddy?  Really?  I think *most* people understand why he's starting but there's a few people that can't seem to figure it out.

I think most people know that if we win games it will be in spite of or at least not easily attributed to henne's play. It's defense and hopefully the return of our run game that have people excited. The defense alone is reason enough to expect more wins than last year, let alone the easier schedule. The bottom line is this TEAM is better than last year, even if we do have the same QB.

I think Branch could be a potential PB caliber player.

Any one or multiple of Lee/ Robinson/ Hurns could be.

Beadles is supposed to be one, but won't be. #Manningartificiallyinflatedvalue

Pozluzsny already made one, so its possible again.

There also could be a wild card like a Telvin Smith or even a Chris Clemons if he catches fire.

Joeckel as well could be one if he develops as expected.

Giddy to have Henne starting?  Really?  Let's talk about blowing a little hyperbole our way.  Exaggerate much?  There isn't a single person on this board who is giddy about Henne starting.  We just understand the logic behind doing so.

I've heard them say that Bortles will start when he's ready.

I've heard nothing about a guaranteed 1 year sit.

Who said that?  Link please.  Starting week one is not the same as starting all year.
