Power Rankings NFL Week 1
#1.) Denver Broncos:
Last year’s AFC Champions thanks to Peyton Manning’s career best performance is aided by a new Defense that was ranked 2nd overall during preseason.
#2.) Seattle SeaHawks:
The Superbowl champs fall down one spot due to the players lost during the offseason and the Oline question marks. If they handle Greenbay at home they will go back up top.
#3.) Baltimore Ravens:
I know most will disagree for having an AFC North team at #3 but this team has good depth, #1st overall D & 5th overall Offense during preseason.
#4.) Green Bay Packers:
Having Julius Peppers and Clay Matthews as your OLBs is a winning combination along with the 4th ranked overall Defense during preseason and having a healthy Aaron Rodgers doesn’t hurt.
#5.) New England Patriots:
In a weaker division than most and having Bill Belichick coaching Tom Brady never hurts when creating week 1 power rankings. 3rd overall Offense in Preseason & got a 7th for Mallett.
#6.) NO Saints:
The question is Jimmy Graham a TE or a WR has been solved, and with an easy schedule and weak division they should fare well this year.
#7.) Detroit Lions:
The team has a very tough division but a lot of talent my upset of the power rankings top 10 pick.
#8.) San Francisco 49ers
: The team had a series of problems from injuries, holdouts, suspensions and a poor showing during preseason has this team down to 8 and might go further down.
#9.) NY Giants:
I guess I have a Coughlin bias here, but I think he’s going to make a strong push to win that division this year.
#10.) Chiefs:
The team took a huge turn around under Andy Reid last year and this year will continue to improve with Alex Smiths new deal.
#11.) Philadelphia Eagles
: The offense is 1st overall in Preseason but defense finished 31st. Chip Kelly and Noles impressed everyone last year with an explosive offense but the D is still suspect.
#12.) Indianapolis Colts:
The winner of the AFC South unless Blake Bortles starts sooner than later.
#13.) Cincinnati Bengals
: Andy Dalton’s offense and the 2nd ranked against the pass Defense during preseason might surprise a few this year.
#14.) Carolina Panthers:
Cam Newton is a better QB than most give him credit for but this team does have serious questions.
#15.) NY Jets:
I figure Michael Vick will start at some point and give the team a better chance than Geno.
#16.) Atlanta Falcons:
Mike Smith will fix most of the woes on Defense but they have a tough division.
#17.) SanDiego Chargers:
the 5th overall Defense during Preseason, improved from last year.
#18.) Oakland Raiders:
The veterans will start off great under D. Carr but might fizzle towards the end of the season, stamina.
#19.) Jacksonville Jaguars
: If Blake Bortles starts sooner than later a chance of the playoffs could even be possible this season.
#20.) Chicago Bears
: The toughest division in the NFC being that each team is equal in talent and could go a lot of ways.
#21.) Pittsburgh Steelers
: This team wasn’t what we have remembered for the last few decades.
#22.) Cleveland Browns:
A great defense that will get overlooked due to the mess on offense.
#23.) Dallas Cowboys
: Romo needs to show the world he can play in December.
#24.) Vikings
: If Teddy Bridgewater starts I think the team could go .500
#25.) TB Bucs:
Is the team able to be productive all season long?
#26.) Rams:
Tough break losing your QB all year, but Fisher is a good HC and will pull out a few wins.
#27.) Buffalo Bills:
Will this team remain in Buffalo next year might be a bigger concern for fans than making the playoffs.
#28.) Arizona Cardinals:
I am leary of the Cardinals ever being a good team in the NFL.
#29.) Washington Redskins:
When your fans are asking for Kirk Cousins to start whom didn’t look good last year the team has problems.
#30.) Miami Dolphins:
The drama is behind them, or is it? Either way they lack talent at key positions.
#31.) Titans:
The team really doesn’t have any positives other than being better than the Texans.
#32.) Houston Texans:
A couple wins possible thanks to Swat Watt and Clowney only reason to watch this team play.

Come on man, ss much as I love the Jags there is no way they should be ranked this high.
Above Chicago, Pitts, Ari?
Yeah, 19 is WAY too high. The Jags are still in the 29-32 range until proven otherwise.
Quote:Yeah, 19 is WAY too high. The Jags are still in the 29-32 range until proven otherwise.
I'd say 26-30 range but otherwise I concur.
Look this might be the only way the Jaguars will be this high on any power ranking, yes I'm a homer, and I dont appologize for that!
I'll wait until after the games are played to make any kind of a power ranking....
Bears and Cardinals should be WAY higher. Jags lower around 25.
My pre-week 1 Power Rankings would be:
#1. Seattle Seahawks
They earn the top spot until someone proves otherwise.
#2. Denver Broncos
Can Manning be stopped?
#3. New Orleans Saints
I expect them to be one of the teams to beat.
#4. Green Bay Packers
If Aaron Rodgers stays healthy, they will be a dangerous team.
#5.San Francisco 49ers
I expect them to fall, but they're still a tough team.
#6. Indianapolis Colts
Andrew Luck is most of this team, but he'll handle things quite well.
#7. New England Patriots
I think they're going to be on the decline, but they're still a tough team.
#8. Philadelphia Eagles
They could be very dangerous this year if their defense can get things together.
#9. Cincinnati Bengals
A dangerous defense + A.J. Green
#10. San Diego Chargers
This team is back on the rise. Were it not for Peyton Manning, they could take their division.
#11.Kansas City Chiefs
Their defense is top notch, and Andy Reid will have them very competitive.
#12. Detroit Lions
It feels weird having them almost in the Top 10. But they are constantly getting better.
#13. Atlanta Falcons
I think they'll rebound quite well this year.
#14. Carolina Panthers
Good defense. Cam Newton is pretty good. They won't win the division though.
#15. Baltimore Ravens
Could still win the AFC North.
#16. Chicago Bears
Their offense is good. But is their defense regressing?
#17. Dallas Cowboys
Their defense is atrocious. Lucky for them their offense can score.
#18. Arizona Cardinals
Another team I think is a bit overrated. I don't see them making the playoffs this year. Bruce Arians is a great coach though.
#19. Pittsburgh Steelers
I don't think they'll rebound like people are expecting them to.
#20. Minnesota Vikings
Like the Jaguars, they can be on the rise. Of course they have Adrian Peterson to help them along their way.
#21. Miami Dolphins
How good can Tannehill be? That's the question.
#22. St. Louis Rams
Is the Sam Bradford Experiment over?
#23. New York Giants
Extremely overrated. It's going to depend a lot on Eli rebounding.
#24. Washington Redskins
RGIII has a lot to prove.
#25. New York Jets
A team that could be toward the bottom this year. Geno Smith will have to progress if they're going to turn things around.
#26. Jacksonville Jaguars
Blake Bortles could boost us. Time will tell on our defense.
#27. Houston Texans
They could rise fast if one of their QB's named Ryan can be a game manager. IF
#28. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
I don't think Josh McCown will be what they hope he'll be.
#29. Tennessee Titans
Surprised at how well they've been rated by some. And I don't get it.
#30. Cleveland Browns
Hoyer or Manziel? It doesn't really matter. This team isn't going to be very good. Lucky for them they could have 2 picks in the Top 5 this year.
#31. Buffalo Bills
Cleveland could get a Top 5 pick out of the Bills.
#32. Oakland Raiders
Derek Carr could do some good, but the Raiders are a mess with a coach that's on a very hot seat.
#19 IS WAY TOO HIGH.... Jaguars should be ranked around #25-26.
Agree. 19 is considerably high for a team coming off a 4-12 season.
I'll give it a crack
1. Broncos - Peyton is primed for another record shattering season (see 2004) and the scarily, the defense should be improved.
2. Seahawks - Wilson will make another leap and the defense should frighten all.
3. Patriots - Never count Brady out and the defense has added talent. Winning the division is their lowest expectation.
4. Saints - Weak division and the home field advantage is huge for this team.
5. Packers - Rodgers and added pieces on defense.
6. Bears - This offense is loaded, defense must step up to win the division.
7. Bengals - Dalton will lead a march to the playoffs and his first career playoff win.
8. 49ers - Uber talented but missing a few players on defense due to injuries and suspensions drops them to 8.
9. Colts - will the defense play well enough to allow for more comfortable wins? Luck will improve, again.
10. Chargers - Rivers will lead his young team to a wild card spot.
11. Eagles - Can the offensive explosion continue or will Chip Kelly and Nick Foles regress? With such a weak division, they can regress and win the division.
12. Ravens - The Ravens has young pieces going into their prime and Flacco will rebound this year.
13, Cardinals - Palmer is serviceable and the defense is quite good.
14. Panthers - Will regress this year but a wildcard is not out of the question. The defense is for real.
15. Chiefs - Lost a lot of pieces and Smith is a game manager, so middle of the pack would be a good fit for them.
16. Falcons - This could be a low spot for them, but they have much to prove.
17. Lions - frightening display of offense but will the defense led by Suh be disciplined enough to lead them to the playoffs?
18. Cowboys - If the defense can play at an NFL level then Romo will have a chance to win the division
19. Giants - I wouldn't count Eli out of sneaking into the playoffs or winning the division either. Very open division.
20. Steelers - Will the defense be standouts as per tradition or will Big Ben, Miller, and Brown continue to hover around .500
21. Rams - Defense is great but in their division they are hosed without a QB.
22. Browns - defense is awesome, QB RB and WR are question marks. Outstanding TE and line play won't be able to shine without playmakers.
23. Vikings - All day will help which ever QB plays and the defense is serviceable. won't be enough in a tough division.
24. Redskins - Will RGIII play the entire season? Will Cousins be traded? Is Jay Gruden a HC at the NFL level? Even in a poor division, this team has too many question marks to be above .500.
25. Dolphins - Tannehill needs to get better otherwise his career won't continue as a Dolphin. A lot of questions for their offensive line, WR, and RB group
26. Jaguars - Henne is starting which means a bottom tier offense won't be able to win may games even if the defense allows fewer than 20 ppg.
27. Bucs - Lovie Smith is a good coach but will a team of guys that aren't 'his' guys lead to a off year like the Chiefs in 2012?
28. Bills - Will EJ Manuel prove he wasn't a product of the system in college? The defense can be good but they may be looking at a QB with their high draft pick this year.
29. Texans - Foster is a step slow, Johnson is unhappy, no QB, and a defense that will be forced into bad spots.
30. Jets - Rex Ryan gets fired following a disastrous season.
31. Raiders - Starting Carr is a mistake, he will be destroyed by the 4 NFC West teams and his own division, that is 10 games he will be at quite a disadvantage.
32. Titans - Offensive line is their best unit and they have little weapons to take advantage.
Im still reeling from pre season off and def stats being referenced
1. Seattle Seahawks - Look to be picking up where they left off last year.
2. New Orleans Saints - I think they'll be putting up some gaudy numbers on offense between Brees and Graham.
3. Denver Broncos - They got better this off-season but how much so compared to the competition in the AFC.
4. New England Patriots - Can Gronk stay healthy?
5. Green Bay Packers - It's just a question of how much improved the defense is.
6. Cincinnati Bengals - Have the talent.
7. Indianapolis Colts - Probably one of the only other contenders in the AFC.
8. Philadelphia Eagles - More dynamic and another year in the system should mean an even bigger year. Also benefit from a weak division/schedule.
9. Arizona Cardinals - That team nobody talks about but will be in the playoff hunt.
10. San Francisco 49ers - Don't look like the same team as last year. Also off the field issues lingering.
11. Kansas City Chiefs - They were the beneficiary of a weak schedule and strong coaching. Can hang with anyone but haven't proven themselves yet. Monumental collapse in the playoffs.
12. Baltimore Ravens - Steve Smith gives this team a swagger they were missing without Ray Lewis.
13. Chicago Bears - The new monsters of the midway is about offense. Whichever NFC North team can play defense will win their division.
14. Carolina Panthers - The D will be good. Cam has a couple of injury issues. Need to stay healthy and get back to running the ball.
15. San Diego Chargers - They're a solid team year in and year out since Rivers has been their starting quarterback.
16. Detroit Lions - Staying healthy and consistent is a concern. The team has star power but don't show it on a weekly basis.
17. Dallas Cowboys - Big D doesn't stand for defense. Very unpredictable.
18. Atlanta Falcons - Maybe they'll put last year behind them.
19. Pittsburgh Steelers - Have struggled to find a play maker outside of Antonio Brown.
20. New York Jets - This could be Rex Ryan's last year.
21. Minnesota Vikings - Could be a lot more dynamic on offense. It bodes well that Cassel earned the starting QB job. Jared Allen departing could loom large.
22. Miami Dolphins - Tried to get better on the ground.
23. New York Giants - Less lethargic at the end of preseason but Eli could have his hands full.
24. Tennessee Titans - Not much confidence in Jake Locker and without CJ I don't see much in the way of any big play threat.
25. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - New look in more ways than one.
26. St. Louis Rams - Their defense will keep them in games. Another Bradford injury may doom their season. Have to score to win.
27. Jacksonville Jaguars - I think the arrow is pointing up. How long do we wait until Bortles gets the start? We were last in these "Power polls" almost the entire season last year.
28. Oakland Raiders - Really hoping Derek Carr can resurrect a failing franchise. A healthy MJD should help their ground game.
29. Washington Redskins - The name of the team seems to be the only thing making headlines. RG3 has to prove himself again.
30. Cleveland Browns - Duo QB systems are terrible in the NFL. Just ask Tim Tebow...
31. Houston Texans - Should be alright on defense with their line but there seems to be little confidence in their QB position and Arian Foster has been quiet on the field.
32. Buffalo Bills - Look to be unstable from top to bottom from ownership of the team to their QB being a unanimous vote to NOT be a team captain. This doesn't sound good.
Does Eric Decker's suspension affect anyone's power rankings? NFL network makes me worried for them. Especially since I have Captain 4Head as my fantasy QB...

Quote:Jets at #15 --- wow.
When the Jets finally put Michael Vick in, handing off to Chris Johnson & Chris Ivory behind a decent Defense. Based on their schedule, I think they can go possibly 9-8 which is why I put them at 15.
Quote:I'll wait until after the games are played to make any kind of a power ranking....
True, since preseason is so vanilla (Playbook) and the starters only play 1 sometimes 2 qtrs in only a few of the games its hard to truly tell until week 1 is played out, but what fun would be in waiting ....?
Quote:Bears and Cardinals should be WAY higher. Jags lower around 25.
I read a few people's Power Rankings stating that the Cardinals are the best team nobody knows about & that's very well possible so I guess I'm one of those people that dont know. What I do know is other than a year they had future HOF K. Warner at the helm this team is a lot like the Bengals (hyped up every year only to collapse). That being said I do have the Bengals as doing really good this year thanks to the Defense being better (pass rush).
The Bears I was going to have them much higher, but I dont think the team has good depth. Once injuries occur, I see the team in too hard of a division / schedule to bounce back.
