As most Nole fans were, I was thrilled to get the win, but extremely disappointed in the performance. Our Oline couldn't open up a whole to save our lives and that is supposed to be the strength of the team. Jameis got rattled early and had happy feet all night. While the line didn't do a great job protecting him, I did not like seeing Jameis look unsure of himself. We really, really miss Kelvin Benjamin. I didn't think it would be that big of a loss. Especially in the redzone. Our D looked lost at times and I lost count of all the missed tackles. It was atrocious. So yes, call me a concerned Noles fan. It's one game and we can certainly turn things around, but it was about at disappointed as you can be getting a win. Having said that, OK STATE is a top 25 team. Their QB will eat defenses alive. And their Dline is very experienced. They lost a lot, but the young players stepped up. They just need to fix snapping the ball on punts.
Here is how i see it. We lost Telvin Smith, Lamarcus Joyner, Timmy Jerningan, Terrance Brooks, and Christian Jones on Defense. Lets just say everyone of our leaders on D from last year now plays on Sunday. Oh yeah and Pruit left for Georgia. Shaw, Freeman, Benjamin, Stork, and Wilder Jr on Offense also now in the NFL. This may hurt some FSU fans but ill be honest we are gonna struggle this year you cant lose that many leaders and that much talent and still be dominant. Oh yeah and to give credit where its due OSU played an amazing game last night whoever is on their schedule needs to watch out.
The biggest difference between last year's team and this year's team will be that leadership. It's hard to replace guys like Telvin Smith and Lamarcus Joyner. People who thought those guys could be easily replaced were smoking something.
With that said, I was very disappointed with:
1. Jameis. He's still taking way too many gambles instead of looking for the check down. There were definitely some throws last night he got away with, but his luck will run out eventually.
2. The offensive line. This is supposed to be arguably the strongest unit on the team, and one of, if not the top offensive line in the country, and they got manhandled by the Oklahoma State defensive line. They had trouble in pass pro and couldn't open hardly any holes for the running game. I definitely thought we would be able to run the ball at will. Give credit to the Poke's defense. They rose to the occasion.
3. The run defense. I definitely thought our run D would be a strength this year. It's only one game, but it was very shaky last night.
Going off of what I saw last night, this team won't repeat. Luckily, this was just the first game.
2 things that are obvious that carried over from last season to this season are,
Jamies works better making quick decisions, and.....
we still struggle just like in the Auburn game with quick tempo offenses. Our Defense has a extremly hard time playing the edge during no huddle. It showed on Mason's run in the NC, and Walsh getting deep into our line quick on the TD run in this game.
One more thing I forgot to add...
The uniforms are HORRIBLE. Our face masks look purple, and white jerseys with gold numbers makes us look like Boston College.
I dont like the new helmets.
While the committee isnt supposed to care about rankings, I think starting 1st will help FSU. If they continue to play like they did last night, they'll lose somewhere along the way this season. Notre Dame could be tough now that Golson is back... however it is in Tallahassee. Not sure what to think of Louisville just yet. We may know a little more after tomorrow. Maybe Miami is better this year. Maybe Florida is. And you can never take rivalry games lightly. Clemson is looking like a paper tiger... and its in a couple weeks so Clemson doesnt have time to get better. The rest of the schedule looks pretty manageable. Even if FSU plays just alright I cant see them losing more than once. And if thats the case, I cant see them being left out of the playoff. I think a one loss FSU finishes top 4 in the polls thanks to starting the season so high. And I think the committee would be swayed by that... even if they dont look like one of the four best.

Horrible logo and now unis. I just don't get why you take two things that were one of the best in college football and destroy it. Well, I know why, $ and probably why it pisses me off more.

That and the fact that FSU has a weak administration and will sell out for $$$.

Yep.

Don't worry. You will start the ACC schedule soon. I expect Louisville to be a struggle and maybe Florida. ND is a joke. 38 to 10 like score. The only trouble is you have to play 2 games at the end of the year to win it all. Good luck to you!

Haha, Louisville will be a tough game. Who knows about florida. We just need to play better.
The uniforms are terrible. Why change a great, classic look.
Was that just an alternate or where those new full time units?

Unfortunately full time. FSU sold out it's tradition for a few extra bucks.

Ewww hopefully they change back next year

When someone in the administration tells you "the more you stare at it, the more it will grow on you," there won't be any change. These are hear to stay for the foreseeable future.

It's really infuriating actually. And it feels silly to be this upset over uniforms and logo, but that's just how I feel.
Both Greene and Whitfield are fast (and maybe under stating Whitfield's speed) so it was surprising that we were constantly throwing the ball short. So much so the defense cheated on us a few times and won. They were daring us to beat them deep. Also, Jameis looked really uncomfortable throwing the ball a few times. Not because e of the pressure, but awkward. He had a guy open deep and must have under thrown it 10-15 yards. Not sure who the receiver was, but luckily we got a PI call.
Was hoping we could work the kinks out. This clemson game looks scary. This team is not on the same level as last year's team and Nole fans should be concerned.
Only because it is at Clemson. They looked terrible against Georgia.
I'm more concerned with that Thursday nighter at Louisville in October.
We have done nothing impressive in the first two weeks.
