Everyone who was frantic over the two health care workers being brought back to the U.S. can now stop worrying. They have been cured.
I shake my head in wonderment at the sentiments of people who react without the benefit of thought.

Yeah, pretty amazing story.
Hopefully this is a cure they can get to the third world and help the people in Africa.
We don't need Condoms, so why waste the money?

"Cured" is an odd term to use for these cases. Recovered is more appropriate.
Disagreed. They had an illness, they no longer have the illness. Cured in my book, and recovered I suppose. But thanks for pointing out nothing.

They weren't really cured. Ebola is a virus that is survivable with constant medical care until it runs its course. Both were deemed non-contagious but may still harbor the virus in seminal and vaginal fluid for a few months. Now the question is if a vaccine could be developed from anti-bodies produced by the survivors.

Vaginal fluid? Is there an odor?

For the Ebola or just in general...:whistling:

Good...cuz I wasn't touching that one!
Sorry for raining on the parade, but this thing is still really ugly in West Africa. Update from CDC:

Quote:<p style="font-family:Lato, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;color:rgb(0,0,0);">The 2014 Ebola outbreak is one of the largest Ebola outbreaks in history and the first in West Africa. It is affecting four countries in West Africa: Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone, but does not pose a significant risk to the U.S. public. CDC is working with other U.S. government agencies, the World Health Organization, and other domestic and international partners in an international response to the current Ebola outbreak in West Africa. CDC has activated its Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to help coordinate technical assistance and control activities with partners. CDC has deployed several teams of public health experts to the West Africa region and plans to send additional public health experts to the affected countries to expand current response activities.

Cured implies a treatment of some kind but feel free to continue to abuse the language. No skin of my toe.
You're really diverting the purpose of the post to semantics of language. However, if you believe they were not treated then fine.
The message was to those people who were adamant that these patients should not be brought into the U.S. because the virus was contagious and could get out of control. Their paranoia was unfounded. But let's talk about whether they were cured or recovered. Great idea.

Stay after it. Millions of tax dollars are riding on your rhetoric.

The sarcasm is misplaced. Semantics are relevant to the conversation because when you say people were cured of Ebola you're suggesting there's a cure for Ebola. As far as I know, there isn't one *yet*, so the paranoia people have exhibited is completely understandable.

There may not be a cure, but it sounds like they're awfully close to a vaccine.

That will definitely be a positive development.
Viruses are not cured. They are treated and prevented, but not cured.
