Hooker gonna get PAID!

Quote:He's real bad in the run game so no SS.
I doubt our defense will use the SS as an in the box guy next year. I see us going two high. And hooker could play both spots then imo.

Dave is a needs drafter. After the money he threw at Gipson I can't see him moving on and taking Hooker so early.

You don't pass on an elite prospect for Gipson.

We have Sample who could then fill the SS role. Or we can sign/draft someone else, since he can't stay healthy.

I was against taking a Hooker but now I'm open to it
This whole "position" based draft approach is bad. The cowboys would've never drafted Zeke following that rule, Earl Thomas would've been drafted earlier to a team that would have an amazing FS for a decade.
Players > Position
Draft Hooker if he's the best prospect we can draft

Quote:Hooker and Dix would be a good pair.
Dix just needs a good helmet if he's going to play with Hooker.

I finally got to watch this guy other than just highlight videos and I think he's definitely an option at 4. Very rare Talent. His range and closing speed is insane

Someone posted mike smith runs a cover 2? If that's the case and we hire him hooker should be the pick and let Cyprien go. Unless we can sign Eric berry

Hooker might be my 2nd choice behind Allen
Two play making safeties back there would be great

Wouldn't matter in a cover 2.

Hold on there a minute. First rule of Defense is "the coverage dictates the front." To break that down you use simple math. Every Offensive front in the League has eight gaps due to there being a requirement for having seven players on the LOS. In order to account for those gaps it then follows that you need eight Defenders. Thing is, when you play Cover Two it means that you are asking a Defensive Back to account for a gap.
That's not so bad when you have a bad [BLEEP] like Ramsey as a CB, but smart money says you want him in coverage, not run support. So now we're back to having to find a guy to account for the eighth gap. If you want your Corners to cover, then that means you will want your Safeties to fill a gap. Not that Hooker and Gipson can't do this, but is it what they are best at?

This almost sounds like a plausible argument for putting Jack at SS.

What if, and I'm just spitballing here, you had two Strong Safeties! And you had them primarily defend the edges and passes so there were five defensive backs!
Then, you would only need two Linebackers instead of three!
And still keep four Defensive linemen!
We'll call it something wacky like... oh, I don't know... the 5-2-4? That work for y'all?
