Caldwell said he thought Bortles had a chance to be the first pick in the 2015 Draft and said he would have picked Bortles over Clowney. I know we are biased. But I'm trying to see how you view Bortles' projection and Winston's projection and how their current prospect and potential stack up to one another.

Who you got going forward? (Allegations and off the field aside)
Well it's somewhat of an unfair comparison since we've now seen Bortles playing against NFL players, albeit preseason.  And we know how good he has looked.

For as good as Winston looked, I'll be curious to see how he does this next season.  He's lost some good talent at the skill positions and now teams will have a chance to do some scouting on him.  He's got a great arm.  That's where the elite talent is.  But to nitpick, he does have a bit of a windup.  And isnt overly athletic.  He isnt a statue but you dont want him running outside the pocket either.  We've seen many prospect's stocks fall a little after we see more and more of them.

Edit: Wrong place
I think we might see Mariota as the top QB selected next year regardless of Winston's antics

That kinda plays a factor....

Gauging talent and potential more than pick projection, ya know? Like Dez Bryant's character and off field played a part of his pick projection but was hella talented.

I'm thinking the same as well, but I figured people would be more familiar with Winston (being on the East Coast and all). Do you think Bortles would have been the top selection?
I definitely think Mariota has more potential than Winston, even discounting the off-field stuff. The only thing Winston really has is slightly better pocket presence, and his pro-style offense. Aside from that, though, Mariota has crazy speed, excellent arm strength, and is really raw still.

Winston will be the next JaMarcus Russell in my eyes
When people hyped on Manziel in college, It was understandable, for me Winston is a guy.. I don't see anything special about him.

Yeah, I agree. I mean, how many redshirt freshman win a Heisman and lead their team to a National Title in their first season starting?

I'm trying to figure out why the hype of Manizel is understandable, but its not for Winston.

If you ask me, I'd prefer Winston.  He has at least some resemblance of a pocket passer that can run when needed.  Ol' Johnny Football is a run first, make legs with your legs kind of guy.  He may develop into a pocket passer, but right now the defenses would eat him up.

I have my doubts on Winston, but I would pick him over Manziel any day.

I have a hard time putting that aside when it comes to Winston.  (and I'm a Seminole fan)
Man, some of y'all underestimating Jameis. Dude is gonna be a stud at the next level if he can stay out of trouble. Otherwise, he checks off all the boxes you want in a QB.

Winston isn't just an NFL arm. He's an elite NFL arm. The guy is a lot like Kaepernick in that he also pitches and throws a fastball in the mid to upper 90s.

I've followed the news on him closely and to me the off-field stuff isn't as much of a concern. He's gotten spoiled by playing behind a dominant line and sometimes holds the ball too long. However his QB rating actually went UP against the blitz and I've seen him make the quick decision when the pressure does come. His much analyzed windup is more wasted motion than wasted time. He still gets the ball out at least as quickly as most NFL QBs because of whatever magic juju in his elbow that allows him to throw fastballs in the 90s.

He's not going to be Andrew Luck where every team would pick him #1 or trade that pick for a huge windfall, but he'll be in that next tier. I think he'll be more highly rated than Bortles and while some team might not pick him #1 overall, many teams will have him at #1 on their board. If Bortles stayed another year, I probably would have wanted Winston.

In the NFL, I think he'll be very good. A lot of the successful young quarterbacks have been overrated as shown by their inability to dethrone Manning/Brady or sustain breakout years. In five years I think the best QBs in the NFL will be Rodgers, Luck, Bortles, Wilson, Stafford, and Winston. I also still have high hopes for Bridgewater, but am not as sure on him as I am on these others.
