Per source, Caldwell told #Jaguars assistants "free to look," for new jobs. All remain under contract so GM wants to be kept "in loop."

But those are not players.
"We all know we sucked this year because Bortles is garbage. I promise to look for a new QB this year and make the Jags Great again!"
(Thunderous applause)

Top few player comments to me in #Jaguars locker room today.
1. "How many guys are going to get cut?"
2. "I'm thinking A-Rob, Linder, Telvin for extensions. Sound right?"

3. "Dave told us he wants it to be him that tells us who the new coach will be before it gets out to the media." (Player laughed)

Sounds to me like Dave wants to announce a new hire fairly soon, and give that coach a chance to determine who he may want to retain before any potential keepers land elsewhere.
@mike_kaye Caldwell kept his meeting w/ the players "short and to the point." Told them to return in shape and he would inform them of the HC hire.
Lol. Heard it was a 2 minute meeting.
SHORT AND SUCCINCT
With the Jaguars' coaching staff's future uncertain, and with the team already in the process of interviewing candidates and requesting interviews, Caldwell addressed the team in the final meeting of the 2016 season. The meeting was brief - about three minutes. "He was just saying, 'The next coach we get ... don't give him a reason, don't get in trouble, things like that,''' Hurns said. "There is going to be change as far as the coaches coming in and the mentality of, 'We've got to win.' That's pretty much understandable. The main thing he said was, 'Don't give a reason for the coach not to be here.' "
Nothing but speculation, That's great Job!!
I heard Caldwell recited a soliloquy from Macbeth and then rode out of the room on a chain clad Shetland pony with ribbons and tassles attached to it

I heard it was the Freedom speech from Braveheart complete with blueface and a kilt.

I remember a 3-minute meeting once. They gathered everyone into the typical meeting area... it turned out to be 40 percent on the company. Once they had all of our attention, they thanked us for everything we've done, explained their situation with the economy, and laid us all off.
Quote:Could be for a number of reasons. Calling a player's meeting though and it only lasting for roughly three minutes seems pretty frustrating to me personally.
If it only took three minutes to address an entire football team you couldn't have packaged up your thoughts and feelings into a neat little email or text message to send out to everybody?
Either way, we'll see. With the recent rash of grumblings coming from some of the players on defense about the coaching staff he may have even called this meeting to shut them up for the remainder of the off-season as well. It's just speculation now.
Because a nice little email or text is the way to communicate organizational message?
"To Whom It may concern:
This season has been very disappointing for all of us. Rest assured we will be doing our best to find the right people in the building to give us the best opportunity to win. We will look at everything and everyone. We will notify you personally if we deem your performance to be adequate for what we are looking for. Please pack your bags and return to the building if called upon.
Sincerely,
Dave Caldwell"

:woot:
We once had a 5 minute meeting at AHL when we were bought by Allstate. The newly transferred Sr. VP stated that if anyone is here only because they couldn't make the same salary elsewhere, please leave because he doesn't want you here. This was one of the best statements I've heard in my 30-year career.

American Heritage? I worked there many years ago when they were still downtown (in both the OLD downtown and "new" downtown building).
