It is quite obvious that Caldwell will need to focus on the offensive line. It is clearly the weakest area. Whether they find players in free agency or the draft, a quality center and depth along the offensive line are the top priorities. Bortles can be special, but they must be able to protect him.
May be a first rounder or very early 2nd rounder but Safety Cody Prewitt from Ole Miss is someone we may target. Versatile guy. He lead the SEC in picks and had I remember two more that he should have had. Also lead the Rebels in tackles I believe or was near the top. Some "experts" say he would be best suited to put on a few pounds and move to OLB but he can cover the best of them. Note: Ole Miss in the '16 draft may have 3-4 1st rounders; LT Laremy Tunsil, DE/DL Robert Nkemdichie, WR LaQuon Treadwell (6'3 230) and SS Tony Conner (1st snap in college and got a pick). Prewitt is a cross between Telvin Smith and Cyp. I don't know where he would see the field in this defense.
He isn't big enough//strong enough yet to play OLB and he is too slow to play the roaming FS.
I love what the guy does for OM but we already have our guy in Cyp.

I would say if we can't get Landon Collins (Alabama FS that Jeremiah is evaluating on par with Vaccaro and Thomas III) we should shoot for O-Line. Hroniss Grassu is a really athletic zone-scheme center, and I would definitely approve. If neither of those picks are available, I'd like to shoot for a tight end, although I'm not sure the value will be there this year.

He already plays pretty much exactly the type of FS we need. He isnt the elite FS prospect Thomas was, but to say he ddoesn't have the speed to play roaming FS is a bit of an insult and not true. I only think we don't target him because the range he should be drafted will be where we should look at for help along the lines. He was once a "speedster" but due to OM not being as strong on D he gained some weight to be able to hit more while staying healthy. The speed is there. I assure you.

Prewitt nearly moved to OLB his Sophmore year...we will have to see the final speed come combine time.
...if you look at Gus' D we need a Earl Thomas type safety...a rangy single high FS (We have our Kam Chancellor type S in Cyp which is what Prewitt would play)

Gallery is probably the biggest bust. But then again, the beauty of drafting a tackle high is that if they bust, you can probably move them inside to guard and be good there for awhile.
I will say Ferentz does a great job building up his players. But he is almost too good at it and maximizes their ability. So when they get to the NFL they've often hit their ceiling already. Scherff though is supposed to be very athletic for his size. On par with Greg Robinson from last years draft.

We have seen that with the Wisconsin offensive linemen in recent years (Konz, Carimi, Moffitt). And same thing with Stanford linemen in the last few years (Decastro, Martin). They are maxed out when they get to the NFL. I'd be leery of taking a guy from those programs.

Bulaga hasn't played in a game since November 2012. He can't stay healthy. Even when healthy, he's been pretty average.
I remember leading up to that draft, some people had him pegged as a potential top 5 pick. But he just slid down once it was obvious that Trent Williams and Russell Okung were better prospects and Bulaga slid to the end of the first round.

Fair enough when you throw the forty speed out there. However, the analysis on his FS seems to really pretty impressive. You can't take speed on paper (or on the computer screen) too seriously until they are on the field. This was also the same site that rated Donte' moncriefs speed as a 6/10 AFTER he ran a 4.35 forty at the combine. All im saying, if we go OLINE first round and Prewitt is there at the second, I think we make a move for him and it would be a smart choice. Rebel D sends lots of blitzs and leaves Prewitt all alone. He's done well covering some pretty good SEc WRs. I think we all are just too eager for college ball. I have enjoyed our back and forth. I could debate players all day!
I think we get a pick between 10-15 and in an ideal world we'd of course...guess what...trade down! How original right? But lets just assume we stay in the 10-15 range. Biggest immediate needs IMO would be center, guard, and free safety. You gotta protect your QB to win the game, so I'd like to see us take a center or guard. If there's one that warrants a pick that high, lets go for it. If not, I'd take a FS or LEO. Personally, I'd rather have a LEO if that was the situation and let him rotate with Clemons. Either way, with Caldwell at the helm I've got faith we'll figure something out.
I personally think best case scenario is that we let Henne go the majority of the season since we are really shooting for 2015...let the OL gel before Bortles gets killed and take a top 10 pick into the 2015 draft.
Jacksonville is in a unique position this upcoming draft in that we have our QB of the future...we won't be in a situation where St. Louis was with Bradford where hindsight shows they should have taken Bortles over Robinson or as Houston who went with the more known talent in Clowney while they had no QB. We basically have a huge advantage this year's draft as most of the QB prospects for this year were thought to be better prospects than those that came out this year.
A top 10 pick that might get us in a position for one of Winston, Mariota, Hundley, Whoever else shows value.
Now we all feel that Bortles is legit and a franchise player but if we are in the above position trading out is a pretty realistic instead of just wishful thinking.

Cody Prewitt looked pretty awesome last night. Had a pick, almost another and then laid the boom. Played the deep FS and showed range and amazing closing speed and good tackling. This is a Gus Guy.
