I'm sure some of you know, but I'd really hate for anyone to be caught off guard by one of these hacks.  So I thought I'd spread the news, since we've been recently getting these calls.

 

Essentially they claim to be from Windows Tech Support and tell you that you have something wrong with your computer (which is bogus).   They usually have a heavy Indian accent. They tell you to open up Event Viewer -- which has all kinds of Errors and Warnings that can be a little scary to anyone who doesn't understand it.  Most warnings and errors are normal.  You'll have some on your computer at all times if you have Windows.  Eventually they ask you to connect to them with any of the various Windows Remote system.

lol @ the troll with the soundclick, pretty funny. 

There are some pretty good back and forth taped phone calls with these guys out there where they get caught. 

"Pakistan rules, India drools."  

I would troll those guys hard. They never call me though.

These guys have called my house numerous times the past two years. One time they called twice the same day. They're very persistent.

I would to... especially since I don't use Windows unless I really have to.

 

And before it's brought up, no I'm not a Mac fanboy.

If anyone has ideas of what to say to these guys, tell me.  I'll say it to them the next time they call.  (Thankfully they haven't today)

LMAO!  That's why I don't use Windows.  Most errors and warnings are "normal".   :blink:

Tell them that you can't find "Event Viewer" in /usr/bin or in /usr/sbin...  where else should you look?

 

Then tell them to hold on a second, you are getting some feedback from traceroute in another terminal.  :thumbsup:

Wait, you mean Microsoft doesn't need my SSN to update Windows?

 Got a call from one this week.  I toyed with him for a few minutes; told him I was interested but didn't have any money and asked if he would take some easily drained swampland in trade.  He didn't understand and it got boring so eventually I just hung up.
