Many posters on here give TMD grief for his conspiracy theories about the league favoring certain teams.
But the appearance of impropriety/lack of impartiality looks bad here.

Why was a guy in his position on the Cowboys' party bus?
Did he obtain any benefit-monetary or otherwise-from being on the bus?
How close is his relationship with Jerry Jones, Stephen Jones and the Cowboys' brass? Could his relationship cloud his objectivity?
Does he have social relationships with executives of every team, just a select few, or just the Cowboys?
My "spidey sense" was triggered when the NFL announced replay reviews would go through the league office in New York, and I was tempted to fashion a Reynolds Wrap hat myself.
Let's face it, anyone hearing about this story who is a fan of a team on Dallas' schedule this year and in the coming years is going to have questions when they get a blown call go against them.
I think Blandino needs to be terminated immediately.
Conspiracy, or bad judgement by an official?

Dunno.
But in a sport where credibility and impartiality are paramount, such interactions...if unexplained... Threatens both.

I agree with you, he should be terminated immediately. This will cast a shadow of doubt on any decision that comes from the league office if he isn't.
It was definitely bad judgment. A firing offense? Maybe. It sure will cast doubt with other teams.
On a side note, looks like the Jones boys enjoy their partying.
I believe someone will lose their job...Doesnt looks very good.
The head of officiating won't help with their terrible defense.
Doesn't Jerry Jones get whatever the hell he wants with the league anyway? I would think this guy should lose his job and all the other owners should make sure it happens.

He does, which is why this story will probably go away quietly.

Tough one, and does show bad judgement. I mean I cant blame the guy for wanting to party with people he's known way before getting the job but not a smart play. The NFL will have to fine him at least you would think for doing that?
Quote:So it looks like a non story.

The NFL Vice President of Officiating apparently, according to the article....
“... met Stephen Jones, a member of the league’s Competition Committee, for dinner in Los Angeles,” King writes. “After dinner, Jones suggested they get a drink. Blandino accepted. They went to a bar and had a drink. From there, Blandino parted ways with Jones and others in his party.”
So the League's VP of Officiating is having a private dinner, and drinks, with Stephen Jones.
That article doesn't "clear it up" at all for me. I think it smells.
I don't think any official, or anyone whose judgments can affect the outcome of a game, should ever meet privately with an owner or anyone who has a vested interest interest in the outcome of a game.

For me, this would represent the ethical ideal for a man in his position.
Absent that, knowledge that he would meet with representatives of every team in a similar manner and not allow any teams to have more or less influence than others would be okay.
The article here indicates he has met with every team like this.
I am uncertain if some teams do not wield more influence than others.

And that's key. As long as there isn't including any preferential treatment.
