He didn't play bad, but he didn't do much. It is kind of hard to gleam very much out of an evaluation of this game.
Shocking to me, Isaiah Crowell didn't even get one snap in the game. He was my #1 running back pre draft. He was rumored to be playing very well in camp, but was somehow #6 on the depth chart. Most thought it was just bluster and he'd see run with the 3's in the second half. Well, the top 5 running backs had significant time and he saw none. The only thing I can think of is he's being a headache behind the scenes or something. If he can't even see action in a preseason game, I'm assuming he's a real candidate to be cut soon. I'd love for the Jaguars to snatch him up. I think he'd easily win the #2 job.

So a guy that's SIXTH on someone else's depth chart would win the #2 job for us easily? Got it.

Quote:Just saw a lot of highlights and his stat line.Yeah, nothing overwhelming. But, that won't stop ESPN and NFL Network from gushing over his performance as if he has risen to the challenge and is on his way to an Hall of Fame career. They've got too much invested in him to point out the flaws right now.
Lots of dinks and dunks.

He already was shaken up and you could see the pain in his face during the game several times. Funny how the announcers glanced right over him wincing in pain but they were pretty busy slobbering on his jockstrap so I'll give them that one.
He's going to have to learn to change his style of play and I don't see that happening. He'll be broke in half before too long.

Short passes, but not Henne-esque. The stats don't tell the whole story.
He had one pass downfield that went right through the receiver's hands. Another where the receiver was ruled out of bounds, though it looked to me as if he might have had both feet in.
All-in-all, he looked a lot like he did at Texas A&M. It was a lot more than I expected based on the bad practice reports I've been reading.

It'll be a short, but interesting career.

Big difference between Bortles, Teddy, And Johnny is Yards per pass. granted, I don't think they were going to let Johhny throw deep.

I thought Johnny 8-ball showed a good arm, but as everyone else has said, he has to stop running with the ball, or he won't have a long career. I hope they're not calling designed running plays for him. Unless, of course, the coaching staff resents the owner's interference and prefers Hoyer. Then they'll run him until he can't play.
As for NFL Network, the hype surrounding Manziel playing his first game was way over the top.

From what I saw he had a few designed runs. And dove head first on top of it.

Quote:Hate him or love him this is likely to be the most watched preseason game thus far. He isn't starting tonight but if I heard correctly is expected to start game 2. Should be interesting regardless!I dont know he looked like Tebow to me, a great running back ability but some of his throws had his body contorted either way I would see him getting injured like most running QBs sooner than later. I would prefer a pocket QB like Bortles over a running QB like Johnny. However Tebow/Manziels are exciting to watch I'll give them that, and I would take either over Blaine Gabbert any day.
Gosh I still cant figure out why we had Blaine Gabbert for so long, he was so incredibly bad.
Im not really impressed with Henne either, he is only slightly better than Gabbert...
I hope Bortles continues to improve and remains healthy he's our only hope at QB.

7 of 11 for 67 yards.....NFLN called it impressive and efficient.....really?

why not?.....thats what most on this board labeled Gabbert's similar stat lines in preseason. (while I OTOH, would be the lone wolf providing levity that they weren't all that great)
I agree with you. 67 yards on 11 attempts is milquetoast.
