A friend of mine was bragging about a bet he made that the Seahawks won't have a winning season this year. I thought it was quite foolish, asked him what the wager was (bottle of Patron) and quickly offered the same bet to him.
After some thought, they do have two things working against them, 'Super Bowl curse' (just a letdown) and playing a damn tough division,
Thoughts?
I can see them maybe not winning their division, but a losing season? C'mon now!
Anything is possible. I can see the notorious Super Bowl slump hitting them and a 7-9 record if they get bit by the injury bug.

I think they will split the 49ers series and take 3 more games in the division. That means they need to win 5 more games (they play against the NFC East and AFC West) so that shouldn't be too tough. I have a hard time seeing this team without 10 wins, but anything can happen esp if they start 1-2.
No doubt anything can happen but i do feel like they kept alot of their young team together and are in a better place than typical Super Bowl champs. I would say they still have a winning record even with the NFC West. It will be an all out War in the west tho.
So it seems most would take the same bet. I hope it works out for me.
As long as Russell Wilson stays in one piece, even in what shapes up to be a top flight NFC West Division again, it's hard to envision the Seahawks not winning at least 9 games. The depth the Seahawks have at a number of positions enables them to withstand most injuries better than the vast majority of teams. The issue the Seahawks will have to overcome long term is much less salary cap space once its time to give Wilson a new contract.
There's absolutely no way, barring injury, the Hawks lose 9 games.
I seriously doubt they lose more than 7 games.
If someone would take the bet, I'd put up 1k against a losing season.

That's fair.
Keep in mind that they have Sherman, Thomas, Chancellor, Bennett, Harvin, and Baldwin locked up for at least the next three seasons. The team is obviosly planning to re-sign Wilson. Current projections figure to have the salary cap rise to upwards of 150 million by 2016. Thats insentive to lock up your good talent now to avoid inflation.
I'm a Seahawk fan and enjoy seeing the Hawks Jags pipeline. A couple of players to keep your eye on: Bobby Wagner (LB), KJ Wright (LB), Malcolm Smith (LB), and Byron Maxwell (CB) might be available in the near future. The Hawks invested heavily in other positions on the Defense so they'll have a tough time getting all of them. Most likely to be retained will be Wagner and Wright. I don't think there is any way we can lock up Maxwell. Hes a FA at the end of this season.
The Seahawks won't make the playoffs this season.

the super bowl curse and injuries?

Yep, and a very tough division.

You guys will have a good run for a couple more years. Really enjoyed last year and the beating you put on Manning. The year before I believe you would have given the Birds a good run. The Atlanta game was a killer.

I think you need to make plans for your shiny new bottle of Patron.

What you mentioned reminds me to some extent of the dilemma the Colts dealt with for years when Bill Polian was their G.M. The Colts had a number of players that ranked at or near the top of the best players at their positions. Because of this, the Colts couldn't keep a number of other quality starters. That's what led to the Jaguars signing UFA LB Mike Peterson, who had a number of good seasons in Jacksonville.
What has helped the Seahawks in addition to Russell Wilson being still on his rookie contract is they have done an excellent job with late round picks and UDRFA's. Players that often don't fit as well in other systems are often important complimentary pieces or better with the Seahawks.

Pete Carroll and Gus Bradley have a similar philosphy regarding a player's value. It's less about what a player can't do, and much more about maximising what a player does well. Look no further than Red Bryant's run stopping ability (and leadership) or Chris Clemmons pass rushing ability (Though he is very underrated against the run).

Don't forget Madden curse for Richard Sherman.
I don't like predictions, but I think, we should won at least 10 games.

Agree.
Wagner is still under contract for 2015 and I think we can work out an extension for Wright even with big Russell Willson's contract coming up.
Kevin Pierre-Louis will probably take over for Smith and Tharold Simon will replace Maxwell. He just needs to be smarter than last week.

Yes, it was, but I don't think we could win NFC Championship game in San Francisco without Clemons and after two hard road games in Washington and Atlanta. It was a bitter defeat, but for me it would be much worse to lose against 49ers. At the end of the day it probably just wasn't our time to win it all yet.
