Words can't even describe how thrilled I am with Rashean Mathis being back with the Lions for a 2nd season. What a class act! The Jaguars certainly benefited greatly for many years by the 2nd Round selection of Mathis 11 + years ago.

I love Rashean...and I really miss seeing him in a Jag uniform!

In the following article from this morning on the MLive.Com site, Rashean Mathis talked a little about his days in with the Jaguars:

Skeptics look at that group -- pretty much the same as last year, minus Houston -- and wonder how it could be better in 2014. But the cornerbacks insist they can do it.
"The front office has to do what it has to do, but I do believe we have the pieces already," Mathis said. "And that's not just me talking. I've been around a team in Jacksonville, and we didn't have any major names. But we were very good at what we did. So just because you don't have a big-name -- top-five name in the league -- that doesn't mean anything. We beat up on a lot of people in Jacksonville with people who didn't have names like that.
I'll be keeping an eye on Rashean when I go the preseason game in a few weeks
Good for him.
One of my favorite all-time Jaguars.

Cool - thanks for posting.
Rashean and I went to the same high school, so I've always had a particular fondness for him. Glad to say he's always represented our school and city with class and professionalism.

I still have his replica Jersey in my closet. Great player, love how he always came up big against the titans.
I appreciate the love guys.
He basically won a playoff game for us. Always stepped it up vs the stoolers.
It always amazes me how Rashean didn't really become a fan favorite unlike a certain "not to be named" quarterback. Wasn't a highly recruited guy, worked on his craft, got drafted in the 2nd round by his hometown team. He should have been a story in Jax. Sad he couldn't finish his career here.
Rashean Mathis still even at his age and previous injuries would still be the best CB on the Jaguars roster right now.

that's debatable

He would have the best history, but I think at this point in their careers Gratz is the guy that offers the more consistent and athletic coverage.

Uh no
Does such obvious trolling ever get tiresome. Just wondering.

My pleasure, Adam.
When it comes to class and professionalism, Rashean Mathis is certainly very high on any list of players and people in general.

The good news is Rashean Mathis overcame his previous injuries last season and at least at present is relatively healthy.
While I'm not going to compare Mathis with the CB's on the Jaguars roster, as I haven't seen enough of the latter to offer an opinion, I did see every play from Mathis' 2013 season. He certainly was the best CB on the Lions roster, despite not even signing with the team until after the 2nd pre-season game. The grade that PFF gave Mathis is along the lines of my assessment of how he performed in 2013.

Mathis proved he had something left in the tank last season as he become the Lions’ most dependable cover corner. His +5.8 overall rating from Pro Football Focus was easily the team’s best and was good enough for 27th-highest among all corners who played at least 25% of team snaps.
