So... I'm going to have a go at this fantasy football thing all the kids are talking about...

Any advice ?

What's the best strategy for the draft ? Any Jaguars worth having ? And how do I win ?

I'm in a league with Jets and Giants fans, so the honour of the Jaguars is at stake here !
Follow Gene Smith's lead.....draft a Punter in the 3rd round. :whistling:

1st figure out how your league scores, every league is different. once you know how they score the league you can develop a stratagy on who to draft when. As for the Jaguars, unless you can get them in the later rounds it's really not a good idea. Your looking for guys that put up yards and score touchdowns consistently right now the Jags don't really have that.

My advice take a RB early the good ones are hard to find and rare to pick up in free agency. Draft heavy on WR you'll need to rotate them through out the season. And your QB doesn't have to be a world beater just a guy that puts up lots of yards, you don't care if he doesn't win games.

Good players on good teams
1. The scoring system. Get familiar with terms like PPR, etc. in our league for instance the scoring for QBs, RBs Wrs are the same, making a QB a premium position.

There's so much importance on the scoring system.

Also, keep tabs on the waiver wire, there's always a diamond in the rough that goes undrafted. Keep tabs on injuries... You dont want a starter on the bench with a hammy he pulled at Saturday practice.

Don't be a homer. Drafting a ton of Jag players will make you hating the Jags at the end of the season...lol.

Research team tendencies. The Seahawks, 49 'ers like a run game...little fantasy points except at RB. Denver, Detroit, NO love passing...good for QB, TE, WRs.

Check bye weeks. You don't need players off on the same wee.

Good luck. Welcome to the insane addiction of FF.
Thanks for the advice, time to start my research then..
As a poster previously alluded to, what's your scoring format?
It's the standard one I think, but with the addition of one defensive linesman (so we each pick one defensive player as well as our team defence)
Typically most fans will go RB>RB>WR>WR>QB but it all depends who is left and the spot you are in. Some one like say Jimmy Graham will go in round 2 or 3 because he puts up WR points. Megatron is one of the very few WR you might see go in Round 1. the Elite QBs do go early depending on the league too. But I personally in a Standard League go RB first and hope another solid RB falls to me in rd 2 but if not typically stand out WR.

Thats me i guess.

Pick a punter early and often

I'd do your research on who's injured who's not. Who is looking to get a lot of reps/new weapons whatever. I'd pick RB in round one then rb/wr in rounds two-four. QB in five. Then depth it up with wr/wr until your last few rounds grab a defense and kicker last round

Yeah, you said it better.

That's about exactly how I roll.
I'd also recommend not drafting until right before the season starts. Nothing sucks more than having your star RB get hurt in the third preseason game or practice in mid august.
Yeah the Date of the draft really does effect the league but sadly my main league this year is doing it on the 17th. Its the day that works for us. But there is always the wire. Always check the wire.

Also during drafts you will see trends happening like runs on Def, someone will pic say the Seahawks, then youll see the 9ers go and so on. Same might happen with the K but that still wont happen til way later. But some folks pick D in the mid rounds.

This year's draft is a bit different than previous years. The depth at RB is pretty horrible, so I drafted all of my WRs and RBs in the first 6-7 rounds. There's a lot of depth at QB, and Nick Foles is pretty underrated in my opinion, but I haven't seen anyone really go for him. The main thing you want to do is research. Try to go for feature RBs, the ones who will get 20+ carries a game. Research in fantasy goes a long way. I've been switching back and forth each round between RB and WR, dependent on who is available. Most people can't fight the urge not to grab Peyton, Rodgers, or Brees, but fight the urge for a more balanced team. You don't want to be screwed when someone goes down. Also, one of the more important things, pay attention to the bye weeks. You want to actually be able to replace your starters with your drafted backups. Pick your defense and kickers last. There are some TEs who are worthy of early round picks. Again, research will point you in the right direction.

Thanks for the advice so far... Very useful !

Turns out I have the second, 15th and 18th picks in the first three rounds

Any tips on strategy ? I'm thinking of top RB on the board in round one then two WRs because most the top RBs will have been taken by the 15th pick

Good plan ?
Two rbs one wr.
Best Available Player. Its all about those points!
I'd go RB, WR, RB, dependent on who is on the board. RB will generally produce more points than a WR consistently, but nowadays only some can do that. Click on the projected points category throughout the draft to help you if you are not too familiar with the players. That will help you decide. It is most certainly all about the points.

Thanks again, that's given me lots to think about

Just wondered if people thought there was much difference in RBs outside the top ten ?

I was thinking that once you are into the Laveon Bell/Giovanni Bernard range, one was pretty much as good as another ?

Judging by previous draws (which I've been studying on FB !) most players seem to go RB in the first two rounds so 8-10 of them should be off the board by the time I make my second pick. But I would expect no more than 5 WRs to have gone by then.
Look for RBs that catch the ball, and Wr who return punts and kicks for mad bonus points!
