Quote:I don't know you, how would I know?

the fact is the idea of opening the borders comes from a liberal "progressive" regime, and the people who are on board have largely liberal idealogies

This is my favorite open border "from a liberal "progressive regime" quote. Does anyone know the person who said it?

Rather than talking about putting up a fence, why don’t we work out some recognition of our mutual problems? Make it possible for them to come here legally with a work permit—and then while they’re working and earning here, they pay taxes here. And when they want to go back, they can go back. And open the border both ways by understanding their problems.

Man, these 'progressives' must really have it out for our country! Where are all the regressives when we need them??

That doesn't make for nice talking points on Fox News. Also, if you keep immigrants illegal you can throw them in some nice privatized jails run by corporations who make a nice profit of it and can use that profit to make substantial campaign donations.

That quote doesn't even make sense.  That is just a convoluted way of saying we should let illegals stay as long as they want.  What is the point of having a legal process that controls immigration if people can just walk across the border and start working?

I don't, nor have I, watched Fox News in a long time.

Talk radio is the same thing.

It came from liberal icon Ronald Reagan.

a great example of the left-right paradigm

the people in power play this game of making everybody think they are different, but behind closed doors its really the same people

IIRC Bush was also a proponent of open borders

Real Liberalism isn't even an option today, the modern Democratic party isn't even liberal, it's more of a Global party or a Centralized/Socialist party than anything. The GOP is more of a Fascist party so either way you're getting concentrated power at the Federal level.

Classic Liberalism would oppose either one of those, it's funny in reality the Tea Party is the closest thing you'll find to Liberalism in modern America but if you told them that or the people that call themselves liberals heads would explode.

ok, but the very definition of a liberal assumes that their ideals change and evolve over time
Bill Bennett, huh?

Was John Sunnunu available for comment?

Bill Bennett is laying 8-1 odds that liberalism will fall by 2050.

Open borders are essential for the republican plan.

They serve a significant dual purpose.

First they serve to depress the labor market and drive down wages. Labor forms the base of the left-wing, by gutting it and causing work to be a situation where everyone is fearful for their own position and just keeps their head down and their mouth shut republicans choke off what forms the base of union formation and the labor movement in general.

Secondly they serve as a boogeyman that can be played against fearful republican voters to drive them to the polls to vote for rhetoric thick and action thin republican candidates.

Only one thing is needed to actually solve the illegal immigrant problem, move the criminal prosecution from the illegal worker to the employer that is employing them.

Anyone that knowingly employs illegals or fails to verify the legality of their employees, should face criminal prosecution.

In order to deal with people crossing the border illegally to work you just need to cut off the supply of jobs available to them.
The piece failed when it said:

One presumes that conservatives will be ready in 2016.

I don't see them being ready at all.  I remember back in 2004, Obama was heralded as the next candidate for President when 2008 came.  Hillary was always a possibility, but the choices were obvious.  The Republican Party doesn't have it's next candidate ready.  They've  primed nobody for the position.  Who's going to run on the Republican ticket in 2016?  They aren't prepared, because they have their go-to 'religious right' voters that they've depended on for so long.  But it's not going to be enough.  America has changed. It's evolved.  The Republican party hasn't evolved with it.  That much is clear from the op-ed stating about out-of-wedlock birthrates.

As long as the GOP continues on their anti anybody who's not white, male, old and rich agenda they will never be ready for anything.

Sir Charles speaks the truth

Quote:Talk radio is the same thing.

Laughing oh come on, you can't be serious. Do you realize how BROAD of a spectrum you have on talk radio?

Michael Savage and Alex Jones all the way to Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin, Andy Dean ( Sick ), Sean Hannity and so on, to put them all under one umbrella as the same as "Fox News" is simply ignorance.

You're kidding, right.

Why, that's the whole spectrum from Louis XIV to Napoleon III.
