I don't care for either one of them.
edit...and I mean that in a good way.
While I really like him, he's a short shelf life coach.
Quote:DC only.
This. He's a really good defensive coordinator.
His 3-4 wouldn't be a good fit for our personnel, but he'll land a job somewhere.

we have the personnel for exactly what he wants to do. We can sign Poe in FA
Bout time. Poor Bills fans, one of the top 5 most cursed teams if not the most cursed one in the league.
seemingly pretty unanimous here but this guy is a great DC.....and that is where it stops.
The best place for Rex next year is for him to go the Gruden route and do commentary. He's got a place on TV somewhere.

I don't know if I would go that far. In baltimore he was supported by a great hall of fame cast of players. In NY he brought role players with him that knew the defense and inherited a pretty good cast of players. In buffalo he had good players that never played up to their level. I think he is a bag of gimmicks that thinks his scheme is better than it is going off the reputation of having a team of Lewis, Suggs, Ngata, Reed.
He is a good DC but I don't think I would call him great.
How do you beat a Ryan defense? You wait for him to throw his cutesy blitz at you and attack the part of the field left open or the corner thats one on one. Or one of the many corners and safeties left one on one. It is a scheme that goes after the big play well leaving itself open to give up a big play.

I wouldn't be surprised in the least that even before that, Rex Ryan is hired by one of the networks for their NFL Playoff coverage.

That could very well be true D6. I certainly would not blame Rex for taking time off and heading to the booth. I imagine he would make good money to do so without all the hours and stress coaching involves.

he would be perfect for that and fun to listen to

i totally agree that Rex Ryan will make good money if he decides to go into broadcasting. There likely will be competition for his services. Probably the major reason why many former HCs have turned down NFL HC opportunities is what you touched on in that you can make good money without the long hours and stressed associated with being an NFL HC. Or even a Coordinator on that level.
When listening to Jon Gruden last night, it sounded like he was having a blast in his current job. it's indeed hard to imagine Gruden leaving broadcasting anytime remotely soon.
In watching Rex Ryan over the years, he seems like the type of person who will want to be back in the spotlight ASAP. That's the main reason why I think there's a good chance he's with one of the networks for at least part of the NFL playoffs.
Different ownership other than the Rex Ryan era. But attention getting never the less:

Fair warning to next #Bills coach: Buffalo hasn't given HC more than 3 full seasons since Marv Levy

I agree. I think that's where his future is if he wants it. However he might still have the desire to coach and I think he'll have opportunities there too.

I agree with you here D6. I don't see Gruden going anywhere. He has a ring and he's making a lot of money for calling one game a week. He would be silly to leave that opportunity if he enjoys it. Which as you said it sure feels like he does.
I would be more surprised if Rex was not a part of a network's playoff broadcast team this year than if he was.

What makes you think Poe will leave KC?
This article attributes Quotes to Marcel Dareus about the issues that faced the Buffalo defense under Rex Ryan.

Quote:
"It was just too much detail for a lot of guys, and I feel like for a lot of guys it was too much going on for them to check here and check there, if this happens and that happens,” Dareus said. “Then nine times out of ten, a team will throw something out there that we weren’t prepared for, and then the adjustment to it, we had to get use to and try to make it happen and make plays.”
It’s not the first time that Bills players have sounded off about Ryan’s scheme and communication difficulties during games. Someone else will be responsible for making sure that doesn’t happen again in 2017.
