Quote:Like I said, I am all for Bortles sitting as long as Henne plays well. If the Jags start out 0-6 and Henne is playing god awful then it is more than likely that Henne will be benched. The NFL waits for no one.
Henne's play should have zero influence on Bortles.
Bortles' development needs to dictate when he plays not Henne's performance. I think the jags are fully prepared to accept some growing pains this season.
Quote:"Some of these guys who are going to bad teams are expected to play well right away. It's hard to do that. I've seen a couple guys able to do it. (Ben) Roethlisberger was able to do it. He had a team kind of around him. (Joe) Flacco had some success early but he had a team kind of in place. You go to a place that has some pieces and you can have some success early. But if you go to a team that doesn't have the pieces ... it can really mess with your confidence." -AR

Is it just me or did Aaron Rodgers say the whole team sucks or that he doesnt think Blake isn't as good as Big Ben was in his rookie year?
He basically said our team sucks and the coaches and GM know it so they are smart for not playing him from day one.

No, he was just pointing out that we don't have many established players on the team especially on offense and he is absolutely correct.
That reminds me, I took the TAP profile test. The "rocket man" thread that was started in the college forum I believe. I scored as a rocket man with 91% accuracy but I started looking at other profiles. Aaron Rodgers scored as what they call an engineer aka "the independent athlete." And a lot of other of the best qbs including brees and big Ben fall under categories other than rocket man.
I guess all that it taught me was there are a lot of different types of people and that different things work for different players. I'll let the coaches decide what is best for bortles.
If he's ready week 1 why not start him, let him take his lumps early.

I am all for sitting Bortles until he is ready... as long as Henne plays well. Iif Henne sucks it up then they will have no choice but to play Bortles.
Henne's level of play isn't going to dictate when Bortles takes the field.

It's highly unlikely that's going to happen.
Win the starting job in preseason like Wilson did.

How so? If Henne sucks the first 4 games of the season you can bet that there will be chatter about Bortles starting.
Quote:Do we really want the approval of Aaron Rodgers?
The best quarterback in the league? I'll take it.

There's no connection between Henne's performance and Bortles preparedness. Bortles isn't going to start just because Henne is struggling.

exactly.
Quote:It's highly unlikely that's going to happen.
I don't disagree with that, just saying if he's ready, I see no reason to sit him.

If current reports are accurate, he looks good, but not starting opening day good, and that's something that's going to take time.

The way Henne plays isn't part of the equation of the staff.
I just have a strong feeling he'll be starting a month or so before the end of the season.
I'm still hoping Chad comes out of the gate and dominates. But at any rate, BB will eventually surpass him... sometime in November

I know the staff keep saying it and I know that as NFL staffs go, this one is more likely than most to be not blowing smoke.
But, the NFL just doesn't work like this.
If you have a vet QB who is stinking up the joint and a 1st rounder on the bench, at some point you make the change.

Exactly.
Some people just don't get the rebuilding process. If anything, one lesson that should be learned by some is you don't deviate from your plan... no matter what. If Henne struggles and we end up 0-8 in the first half of the season, you don't give up on your plan and make some "knee jerk" reaction.

The staff has made it clear this is exactly how it will work. They're not trying to conform to your NFL standards. They're developing their own.

It only works if the front office could care less about what the fans say and this front office has proven they will go against what us fans want.
The fact they said this before training camp opened up told me they were serious. Not to temper expectations or whatever but to tell us to sit tight and they will disregard anything we whine about. They are not going to rush this because the owner has not put them I'm a win now mode. Try have set up a system in which money is being made and have operated off of the bare minimum. They are focused on getting it right no matter the time table.
In other words just sit back and enjoy the ride
