Still hatin' on Branch:

maybe i missed it... but where was he hatin on branch in that article?
Quote:JP and Jeff were talkin about ryan davis quite a bit today... i think babin  was just a casualty of a depth and youth at the position... no since in having 5 guys at one position on a 53 man roster.

If it weren't for his being cut and re-signed to a lower deal, he wouldn't have been around this long.

Cheap insurance in case there were growing pains with the youth.

yup, but after we got Clemons i think his insurance policy was a little redundant.
I heard they tried sliding him inside for a few snaps at practice yesterday. Guess they were experimenting to see if he could fill a hybrid role? Well.. obviously it didn't look too good. I liked the idea of Babin coming in as part of a rotation, but I guess he was third string at best in any scheme we ran. He didn't get much attention last time he hit the market. He may need to wait for the injury bug to strike somewhere before he finds a new home.
I kinda like random roster cuts like these. It keeps everyone on their toes. Tomorrow it might be you Ninja
This is going to be one of the interesting places to look at come training camp.

The way I see it - this means Branch is the 2nd Leo, which is a good thing in terms of his development.  Everyone raves about him, so I'm expecting a year where he's pushing 8+ sacks.

It also means that they like Chris Smith enough that they want him to get some sort of playing time.  With Babin in there, both of these guys would get less playing time.  The team obviously likes both, so lets give them the chance to succeed.

Quote:Mayhaps I did. Perhaps I subconsciouly filtered out the word "successfully".

I'm a simple man, Jin-knee. Sometimes I don't understand.
Was the closing line a Forrest Gump reference?
Quote:True.  But don't think you're immune.  It wasn't long ago you were questioning the "buzz" around the new regime.  Good to see you've let that one go.

I'm actually quite willing to admit my wrongs, but yeah the preseason "buzz" is usually hot air.  This year I think is different, we actually have a reason to be excited.  Last year, not so much.

5 at 1 position is just nonsince.

My nonsince sense it tingling.

Ding, ding, ding. I see I butchered the word subconsciously, too. It's the phone's fault.

Reference, but not a "Quote"

I cents it two.

Quote:I still feel they will carry 10...cutting Babin and carrying Davis and Jones.

Leo: Clemons, Branch, C. Smith, Babin...

Watson will also slide into the position...So I feel one of the above gets the cut and that one being Babin.

Babin was always going to be the 1st one out....

Quote:I would think Babin is 1st DE cut....

Damn.... he's like the alualu haters on here... doesn't give up... it seems like he is just craving an "i told you so" moment.... it sucks to see a guy who is suppose to be objective as a journalist be so close minded and dead set on something that is far from definite.... its cool to have an opinion but there is a point where he gets so defensive about the subject you can tell there almost nothing that can be done by branch to sway the guy short of having a 10-15 sack season... which i don't think needs to be done to prove he is a decent player.

Alfie is not a journalist.  He's a blogger.
Alfie has been wrong about so many things that to think he is an expert is laughable.

Has he ever been right?  About anything?
