well that makes two of us.
Quote:Its not a major injury.....but its also something that can have lingering complications. For this to happen so close to camp cannot be viewed as anything but a concerning scenario for Houston. Particularly coming off of a year chocked full of adversity that he just had.

This is the #1 overall pick we're talking about here. This ain't small potatoes like you'd look at this with a 3rd day pick.
I'm not worried about it. He should be fine.

LOL, how so?

Somebody does however seem like they're nervous (or wishful thinking), with the way that they're/he is acting like a player on a opposing team just suffered a major injury and all doom and gloom..

Sports hernia isn't crap.. I elected to not even have surgery at this moment BTW.

lol, hey I'm just sayin'....

...seems to be a black cloud residing over this player. Its good that you're not nervous.  ....allegedly. :whistling:

But you're right....its probably nothing...JUst like the 3 QB sack season he's coming off of....thats probably nothing, too. As well as all the concerns about his motor & taking plays/ games/ seasons off...thats also probably nothing.

<i>Yer probably right.... :whistling: </i>
I'd be more concerned about moving him to a LB position.  his coverage skills were questionable the times that he did drop back.  He is a DE.

He was an amazing force during his sophomore year with a 4 sack performance against Clemson to close out that year.  I was surprised that he appeared winded most of the UNC game to start last year.  it was hot...good lord it was hot......but he did not look ready.  Other teams countered him with 3 step drops, running away from him, triple teaming him and his willingness to go out of position chasing the QB on those draws that would go right by him.  Also, in 2012, he had Devon Taylor on the other end.  Some of those sacks were due to DT flushing the QB and JC chasing down the rabbit.  Personally, I think he would thrive in a 4 down set as opposed to a 3, but we will see how it goes.

I'd say the above is just yet another circumstance that adds to the overall black cloud of uneasiness/ concern about this player that I mentioned a few posts ago.
I don't like the Idea of drafting a 4-3 DE and then having him play OLB.
Quote:Give me a break. Players routinely play through this injury and the only reason why he's having surgery now is because they have the time to do it. I currently have a hernia.. found out about it a couple of months ago during a physical, I've probably had it for a couple of years now. I know you want it to be, but it's not a big deal. Also kudos for the "Houston we have a problem" line... so original and creative. Rolleyes

Because comparing yourself to a football player who utilizes explosiveness and lower body strength to continuously battle some of the biggest strongest athletes on earth, makes since.

I'm sure your hernia doesn't interfere with you sitting at your desk or filing papers.

Way to go.

Sense you put it that way...

Happens all the time. I hate spending the #1 overall on a DE & having him play OLB. But it's not as bad as taking a project QB in the top 5.

Here's a write-up on Sports Hernia via the NFP:

<p style="margin-left:40px;">"...A sports hernia is defined as an injury to any soft tissue (muscle, tendon or ligament) of the lower abdominal or groin region. This includes dozens of structures and is why all athletic pubalgia injuries are not the same. Injuries to the back, hip, groin and pubic symphysis also need to be considered and excluded.

<p style="margin-left:40px;">

<p style="margin-left:40px;">Athletic pubalgia most commonly occurs in sports that require sudden changes of direction and a twisting motion. It is a common injury in hockey and soccer. Some have even referred to it as a hockey hernia. It is more common in high-level athletes, primarily a diagnosis of men and can be difficult to diagnose.
.."

I could see Clowney being a guy that has a lot of nagging injuries, and then miraculously the last year of his contract he has 17 sacks....big contract.  Repeat cycle.  He just doesn't seem to have the heart for it....being with JJ Watt will help though.

Yeah, thats a very plausible scenario.
He does have a silly name therefore doomed to be a bust

Sure does.

Groin pain is the worst....so I'm told.

His agent is trying to say he had the injury last season, but he is denying it. It all sounds fishy to me.
Look on the bright side. Even if Clowney turns into an epic bust, at least Houston still has the 2nd largest video boards in the league.

Hey, we aren't the ones who lost an NFL team.
