Quote:When Khan said a homeless guy in Detroit has more mojo than the millionaires in Jacksonville, it offended some.  But, I thought it was spot on.  We've got quite a few millionaires here who simply have no vision, or at least not the kind of global, long-term vision Khan does.  I think he's made it his mission to drag them into the vision thing kicking and screaming, and I think it's great for the city.

I totally agree.  When I moved here in 2001 I saw so much potential and couldn't believe that no one had developed a lot of the areas in town.  Khan definitively has a vision and the younger generation is really willing to support the urban core.  All good things for the city!

There have been several plans to develop the land, but most fell apart because of the downturn in the economy, or because they were never able to secure funding.  The last one was trying to use the Police & Firemen Pension Fund for the city by having them buy the land.  There was no way the city was going to sign off on that.

This deal is different because Khan has the resources to do this regardless.  It is that kind of vision and capability that will make him a tremendous asset to this city as a whole.  It makes Weaver's decision to sell to him seem almost brilliant.  Wayne didn't have the kind of resources to spark this kind of action in the city.

A very key point.

And yeah, Weaver deserves some kudos here too. He might have been able to jump at some of the other offers he received, but was honest when he claimed he was waiting for the right situation; one that had the best chance to keep the Jags where they are at, meaning right here in Jacksonville. Weaver is a good man.

Quote:They're pondering it pretty deeply.  Khan already has verbal commitments from a hotel chain, restaurants, and some retail.  If it moves forward, there will be some high profile announcements almost immediately.

Maybe I'm being a wet blanket, but I see people all the time starting threads that say one thing in the title, and they link to an article that doesn't say what the title says.   The thread title says the Jags ARE going to develop the land around the stadium, but the article in the link says they are THINKING ABOUT developing the land around the stadium.  We've known that for a year.

The Jaguars aren't publicly saying they're going to develop the land.  They've said they are interested, and they've even used it as part of the state of the franchise address.  But, behind the scenes?  They're doing a lot more than just thinking about it, and I actually got that from someone who is pretty close to the situation.

sure lol. it's pretty cheap there. I've seen 1-2 bedroom houses for between $400-500 along the St. John's river.

I'm pretty sure if everyone on this board chipped in they could help out a broke college graduate and a retired waiter with some season tickets.
