Quote:After a season as the wide receivers coach at Florida, Joker Phillips resigned on Wednesday and Gators coach Will Muschamp named Chris Leak as his replacement...

... "I'm thankful for the opportunity that the University of Florida and Will Muschamp provided to me and my family, but at this time I have decided to step down from my position on the UF coaching staff for personal reasons," Phillips said in a statement released by the school.

Its definitely peculiar timing.
He is Florida's top recruiter right?
Curious. Wrong time of year for Bumstumble Tech of Illindiasota to have offered him a coordinator job.

Best of luck to Phillips with whatever comes next. I wonder if Leak will lose the WR coaching job to Tebow, too.

Rumor is recruiting violations???

That's what Hicken was saying this morning.  If that's the case, let him go and hope the NCAA shows leniency.
Seems like every big program gets that hit from time to time.  No telling when something will come out about FSU (yes, I'm a fan).

No.

He did hold the titile of Recruiting Coordinator
I love reading some of the boards that were complaining about Leak coaching wide receivers.  In a lot of cases coaches will switch positions.  For Leak its a natural switch.  He worked with receivers, knew routes, etc....I don't know how good of a coach he is, but he's moved up relatively quickly there.

I was reading yesterday and a lot of Gator fans said he was an average recruiter. Judging by the talent they have at receiver, I can see why they'd say that.

You have a point there

Yeah, this doesn't seem like much of a loss. He is at one of the top football schools, cheats and still can't put a decent WR Corpse on the field.

I don't think the issue at receiver is as much about a lack of talent as it is about a head coach who won't allow his offensive coordinator to throw the stinking football.  Muschamp is supposedly taking the reins off the offensive coordinator this year.  I'll believe it when I see it.

"Personal reasons" sounds like forced resignation over violations to me.

I agree to an extent. Ever since Harvin and Louis Murphy left UF, their receivers have been less than average. Then again, so has the QB play. And the play calling.

Most college programs discourage putting corpses on the field at any position.

They landed one of the top recruits last year out of your alma mater.  He barely saw the field last year.  UF's offensive play calling under Muschamp has been pathetic.  Especially for fans who remember the good old days when UF had a painful to watch, but effective offense under Tim Tebow, or those who remember the fun and gun days under Spurrier.

They're all still alive as far as I know, so no.

Career wise?  Yes.
