Quote:I'm still having a few people that can't help themselves but to hate...read over the Sanders on the roster bubble thread. I wasn't even negative in that one.
I was aware of that when I posted, but I don't think that qualified as a "major board controversy" where people were divided into factions and the board was dominated by the topic.

Now that is unfortunate that people were "picking fights" so to speak.

I try to take everyone's posts at face value and go from there.

But that stuff aside, is the board discussion better with or without major controversies?
One thing is for certain if Blake Bortles shows flashes of brillance during PreSeason I am sure a debate will occur over starting him sooner than later since Chad Henne is Average at best.  I figure some will argue that he should learn from the bench until the team gets more peices to the puzzle sort of speak, but isnt on the job training the best learning tool (provided the Oline looks good enough in preseason to not have him killed)?

Quote:Shack and Gene were so terribly aweful that it warranted fans posting about it, and the Yeah sayers would argue with them saying everything's fine, it'll all be okay, Byron Leftwich and David Garrard are hall of fame QBs type of stuff... when it was obivious to most people that the team lacked real talent.

I think the lack of arguing and debate is from (at least at this point as far as anyone can tell) GM Dave Caldwell doing a great job in personel management.

That's the thing.  I can see this and the other explanations offered as plausible possibilities for the lack of major debate on the board.

I'm growing increasingly inclined to think this is a major reason for it.

As long as the lack of huge controversy means things are going well with the team, then I'm for it.

If it is in no way tied to the well being of the team, then I'm not so sure.
Quote:I havent read a majority of your post, and I dont agree with everything you say but I couldnt figure out why so many posters hated on you for stating your view points.  I think it was a bit of mob type bullying to scare way anyone that conflicts with the regimes propaganda.  If you are afraid of others opinions and cant debate with supporting facts of your view point, well than I feel sorry for you.

Post on, haters will hate.

and I can admit, in some cases I can understand static from the peanut gallery from actual negative opinions. What I don't like is when simply because of "rep", certain people just lazily assume that every post I make has a negative connotation to it. Again, case in point being the Sanders/ roster bubble thread just as the most recent example. All I did was post a story/ article emanating from the beat writer. I didn't bash Sanders at all....on the contrary, I defended him saying that I didn't agree with O Halloran in post 2 of that thread and that I'd think a player like that should be given another year or so to develop.

There's an entire thread where you can discuss that.

I don't know if the board discussion is better without the contoversies....but I know as a Jags fan like it better now when my team really looks like they are headed in the right direction. Theres a real sense of expectation and excitement to the upcoming season and upcoming season(s).

This is funny stuff right here.  "The regimes propaganda".

Good stuff.

I wonder why they dont have a simple chat room, for discussion with people while online instead of posting in threads?

Because chat rooms can become more unruly than a message board.  It's too much to manage and not worth the trouble.

We are in complete lockstep agreement on this point.

I am so stoked over the possibilities for this team in the near future.

Just the idea that a guy like Sanders could be on the bubble speaks volumes as to how far just the receivers have come.
Makes sense, easier for a person coming on afterwards to search for topics they are interested with and adding input.

Why are you missing controversy?

There are plenty of spirited conversations happening on the board now.  If the volume is down a bit, that's just a sign of where we're at in the calendar year.

I think there is an overall positive sense about the direction the team is in, even from the bigger whiners on this board who would complain about ANYTHING if there was something they could latch on to.  Right now things are in a good place.

Chat rooms=bad.

Give me a message board any day of the week for football talk.

exactly....the Sanders roster bubble talk, is almost a compliment if you use some perspective.

I don't know  that I'm "missing" it as in longing for it (though I love spirited debates).  My intent was merely to make an observation and raise questions from those observations.

Would football discussion not centered around controversy/debate be better/more substantive, or does the need to substantiate your point to counter someone else's argument lead to better discussions?

I enjoy a spirited debate too.

FBT and I have had many over the years. I have zero problem with those (the ones that center around football anyway). Those can be fun.

It is a more boring board, yes.

Your dum. Ninja

Give it time.
Quote:I can buy this, except that the overwhelming majority of posters here applauded the draft. If everyone were jaded, the praise for the draft on this board would be minimal. Unless you are indicating that the initial excitement surrounding the draft has worn out and fans are now in "show me" mode.

Yep. To paraphrase FBT's response - guarded optimism.
