$126 million with $61 million guaranteed

Massively overpaid in my opinion. What does everyone else think. Granted they feel like he's the franchise QB for the next decade, but I think he's massively over rated. Much like Wilson in Seattle its the Defence that is making that team successful

1 TD 4 picks against SEA last year, 2/6 if you include the playoffs

He's going to need to improve a lot to warrant that contract.

should have written the check on a nice fresh sheet of TP

Wow, 49ers will be regretting that when he continues being average.
just [BLEEP]

Is that for 10 years? If so, that's probably fair
I like Kaep, but holy cow.

And also Russell Wilson is a pretty good QB. He is definitely a big reason Seattle did what they did.
With Gabbert in the wings I'm not surprised they overpaid Kaep.

doesnt matter if its for 50 years. theyre giving him 61 mil guaranteed.
unreal, does that make him the highest paid QB now? Wasn't Mannings close to 120?

I think Brees is the highest paid as far as salary goes
I think it's a 6 year deal.  I don't think Kaepernick is worth that kind of money.  I think QB's usually get paid more than they're worth of course.  But I don't think that's a good level for Kaepernick.  And it's going to set a bad standard around the league.

That's an absolutely insane contract. That's the highest amount of guaranteed money in the history of the NFL for a QB that is just above average.

He has played 32 games, starting 23 of them. To give that kind of money to a guy with that little experience is insane. Even if he was 17-6. He is a good QB who is still developing, but that is elite money. He has a good TD/INT ratio and is an elusive runner, but SF could have waited another year to further validate their assumptions of this investment.
It's getting to the point where getting a franchise QB is a double-edged sword. You need one to win and good luck without one. However, once you get one you have to pay him crazy money. Then you're trying to piece a team around him and trying to stay under the cap for as long as you can while letting quality FAs walk every offseason.

Seattle will be next once Wilson gets paid.
The money is indeed crazy.  But think of it this way: Bradford was guarenteed $50 million before he even played a single down in the NFL.  Just think of Kaep, who already has 2 years of NFL games experience, as a 1st overall pick by the 49ers.

Wilson and Cam are doing the Manziel money TD dance right now.

Remember that this is a 6 years deal with $61 mil guarenteed, meaning that it is only 10 mil per year for a up an coming QB.  Why do people act like he's getting a full $120+ mill?  There are obviously incentives in his contract clause -- passing for over 4k yards and 30+ TDs, winning SBs, etc -- for him to collect the non-guarenteed portion.

My thoughts exactly.
The Gabbert curse is striking San Fran already.

Let's hope they implode

Agree on both points.

Aside from moving to a new stadium, they certainly have had an odd offseason (nutty contract, players acting nutty, talk of a nutty Harbaugh trade...)
