I think Khan has tamped down the relocation talk for now, although you're still going to get the occasional drive by shot at Jacksonville from the less astute media hacks who don't bother to do any research. 

Khan has definitely, for now, killed the relocation talk. He's invested into the Stadium and Downtown in a big way. Now it's a wait and see game, if the support follows his efforts, which most suspect it will, all is good in Jacksonville. If for some unforeseen reason support didn't follow all of the cash flow that's been injected into the franchise then the talks, rumors and relocation become a possibility again.

 

For the last couple of years the fan base did their part, we supported a lackluster team with a lackluster office and a half hearted attempt at keeping a franchise competitive. Khan came in and has change all of that, the Jaguars are "all in" right now, so it's back in our court.

It is virtually inevitable.

 

But this was refreshing for once.

 

Usually, any article talking about franchise relocation elicits an automatic eye roll from me, because Jacksonville would get thrown under the bus.

One angle brought up in the interview that I previously didn't give much thought to is the possibility of Chargers owner Dean Spanos putting together an ownership voting block to try to prevent a team other than the Chargers to move to Los Angeles. 

 

Being that Los Angeles is a Secondary Market of the Chargers,  much like Orlando is a Secondary market for the Jaguars,  it's understandable why Spanos wants to protect the Chargers territory.  Especially considering the vast size of the L.A. market.  

 

Even if the Chargers get a new stadium in San Diego,  Spanos might try to prevent a team landing in L.A..  Unless, the Chargers get a large payment in exchange for giving up their Secondary Market to the north.

It's because it's about LA. Had it been about London, they would have brought up the London Jags.

You know what's interesting about all the Jacksonville reloaction talk?


There was relocation talk about the Saints moving to Jacksonville in the 80's.  Just read that, and found it interesting.

The old Baltimore Colts as well. Jacksonville used to be the leagues pimp, much like LA is now. Why ever move a team to LA when you can just threaten it repeatedly and continue to fleece city and local governments all across the country into footing the bill for 500-700 million.

When all the dust settled,  I believe it was for the best for Jacksonville to get an expansion team instead of an existing team with a long history and an identity.   If Los Angeles gets back in the NFL,  I hope it's by expansion as well.    My view of the Angels,  Kings,  and Ducks is much more favorable than that of the Dodgers and Lakers.
