I dont know if all this is true, some is true since Dave Caldwell himself said it to reporters, but if all is true this makes me happy Clowney went 1st and not Bortles.
He says if Bortles went 1st, Rams take Robinson, then we trade with ATL and they take Clowney, then we take Jake Matthews or Mike Evans which would be dumb passing on Clowney. They also say Carr was the number 2 QB on our board.
So we end up with Carr and Evans maybe, I like Evans but did not like Carr, I take Bortles and Lee over them two any day of the week.
This could be just some guy acting like they know every thing but who knows
He said he would have taken Matthews or is that media speculation?
If they would have taken Carr + Evans, then I'm very happy to have it turned out the way it did, instead.
Carr?? Ugh....Good Lord.... smh...
We would have taken Clowney and laughed.

I'm not so sure.
He really doesn't fit into their mold of the type of football loving/ 100% effort on every play kinda player.
I read they'd go receiver and then try to go back up and get teddy.
I'm happy with the Bortles pick, hoping he turns out to be the franchise guy the front office believes he will be.
If those other scenarios took place, I'd have been happy with those too.
Bortles
Clowney
Jake Matthews + something extra
Kudos to the Jags FO.
Very solid plan with either of those 3 options (assuming its all true).

Watkins or Evans + Teddy is really the only other alternative that would have compared favorably with what we wound up with now.
There's a lot of conflicting reports. Some say Garoppolo was Dave's second rated QB. I sincerely hope that's not true. But we really don't know.
I'm fine with what happened. I never thought Clowney would really fall to us anyways. I like the WR's we picked, I'm hoping Blake becomes a star.

Sounds like Garoppolo was his last fallback option. First was obviously Bortles, second was WR then trade up for Teddy, third was trade down from 3 to wherever and take Carr if Evans and Watkins were both gone, fourth was simply Garoppolo at 39.
Don't matter, Raiders picked Carr before we were up.

No, I think Carr would've been the pick in the first round...if say the trade with Buffalo would have happened and we picked at 9. In that scenario Bortles, Watkins, and Evans were all gone and I think Carr would've been the pick at 9.

Not sure what leads you to think that. Especially when you earlier said that we'd trade up for Teddy. If we'd take Carr at 9, there's no way we'd ever take Teddy.

No way in hell.

Only other QBs in the first round I would been happy with is Teddy or Manziel, Carr eww. But if we did take Evans and couldnt trade back into the first round, with Carr going to the Raiders before us, it looks like it would have been Garoppolo, but I dont know if he was our 2nd rated QB.

Those were two different scenarios.
I believe the order of their QB scenario preference:
1. Bortles
2. Take Evans or Sammy, then trade back up for Teddy
3. Trade down and take Carr in the 1st if Bortles, Watkins, and Evans were all off the board already
4. Garoppolo at 39

If the Jags would have taken Carr that high,....lol......wow, what a complete 180 my opinion would be of Caldwell right now....
Carr sucks dude.....and you'll see that in due time.

You notice how TB hasn't come up once in Dave's post draft statements? I don't believe he, or any other NFL team for that matter, was completely smitten over TB in the 1st.
