This question is sort of like a guess the roster type but more from a general standpoint.

How many players in each group do you see this team keeping on the final 53?

QB

RB

WR

TE

OL

DL

LB

DB

edited to include TE, for some reason, forgot.

Not really.

5 OL and 5 backups

4 LEOs

2 De

2 Nt

2 DT

4-5 S

5-6 CBs
<p style="color:rgb(40,40,40);font-family:helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">QB - 2

<p style="color:rgb(40,40,40);font-family:helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">WR - 7

<p style="color:rgb(40,40,40);font-family:helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">OL - 10 (Includes 3 TE)

<p style="color:rgb(40,40,40);font-family:helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">DL - 8

<p style="color:rgb(40,40,40);font-family:helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">

<p style="color:rgb(40,40,40);font-family:helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">This is one of those weird years where we're rebuilding and will have a bunch of young talent to develop. This probably will not look this way in a year or two as the cream rises to the top, but you've got a bunch of young DB's, WR's, and LB's that can grow on special teams this year.

I didn't think they kept 5 backups for the OL.

I thought it was usually like 8 or in rare cases 9.

A backup T, Backup G, and backup C. Maybe a swingman also, making it 9.
edited the first post to include separate TE.

Yeah that's likely. A lot will depend on how the TC battles play out.

With Denard being put as an RB, but could also fit in at WR if necessary I think.

<p style="color:rgb(40,40,40);font-family:helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">

You can call me crazy about 3 QB's, but if Henne gets injured, that forces their hand with Bortles.

I think the strange thing about the final 53 is the large number of rookies that could make the final roster.

To echo a post I made in another thread, I don't think it out of the question anywhere from 12-14 rookies make the final roster.

I think under normal circumstances, that would be unheard of.

But I think there are so many holes on this roster, and this rookie class appears to be so good, I could see 25% of the roster being rookies.

That would be incredible.

There is talk about the Jaguars draft class being the best in team history.

I'm beginning to think this crop of UDFAs may also be the best in team history.

This entire offseason kicks [BLEEP]!!!
Quote:

QB - 3 Easy, no way they don't have another option if their telling us Blake "isn't ready" week 1.

RB - 5 Some of these will mainly be contributors on special teams

WR - 5

TE - 3

OL - 9 Most teams do 8 or 9 and we have too many battles and uncertainty to go with 8

DL - 9 While it's important to keep them fresh, we need ST bodies too much to keep 10

LB - 6

DB - 10 Another position benefiting from carrying guys that are key to ST

Specialists - 3
Alualu, Babin, Bryant, Clemons, Smith, Marks, Branch, Hood, Miller...

So we don't carry Davis or Jones at 9 DL...or who above is getting cut for them?

Heck if I know, but we need those lesser known LB and DB to run down the field on kickoffs and punt returns.

I wonder if Ryan Davis can go to the PS for one year? I also wonder if Branch could be listed as a LB to play the SAM spot?

I still feel they will carry 10...cutting Babin and carrying Davis and Jones.

Leo: Clemons, Branch, C. Smith, Babin...

Watson will also slide into the position...So I feel one of the above gets the cut and that one being Babin.

The impression I have is it's around 50-50 whether a team keeps 8 or 9 Offensive Lineman on their regular season roster.  One thing for sure,  backup Offensive Lineman need to provide versatility.

If the Jaguars only keep 8 Offensive Lineman on their 53 man roster,  my guess is they will sign 2 Offensive Lineman to their Practice Squad.   If they keep 9 Offensive Lineman,  then only 1 Offensive Lineman on their P.S. is likely.

I believe Ryan Davis has another season of practice squad eligibility remaining.

Considering the impressive play Davis provided in December of last season,  another team could easily claim him off waivers if the Jaguars release him from the 53 man roster.   If Davis continues to make noticeable improvement,  it probably will be too risky for the Jaguars to release him with the hope of signing him to their P.S.

With Blake Bortles being the most important player the Jaguars currently have,  you are far from crazy.   Keeping an extra QB on the 53 man roster is well worth it for the Jaguars if their goal is to patient with Bortles.    Until Bortles is ready for meaningful regular season game action,  it's practically imperative that the Jaguars keep 3 QB's on their roster.

Yeah, I guess I could see them keeping 8. Joeckel, Beadles, Brewster, Linder, Pasztor and then Bradfield, McClendon, and Bowanko with Lewis on the PS.
