Ouch, no wonder we have struggled for so long.
Quote:Ouch, no wonder we have struggled for so long.
Yup. Just keeps getting uglier.
I just threw up in my mouth.
That 2009 draft actually had potential at first. Britton got injured, Knighton got way out of shape, Cox got injured, Dillard got injured, Miller got injured. At least Monroe was pretty good.
2010 was awful, beaten out by only the 2008 draft.
I still remember the dreaded "IN GENE WE TRUST" crowd
The only plus you can possibly take from those miserable picks is that there are virtually no 2nd contracts to eat up our cap. More money for DC to do his magic and rebuild the roster.
Using Google however does explain how Gene probably drafted.
Quote:There are a lot of drafts that happened in the time the NFL has been around. It's seems the worst the Jaguars have so far ever had, but it's hard to say about the history of the NFL and all the teams that ever drafted in it.
I don't know about that. Everyone wants to hate on Gene Smith (and rightfully so) but there was a worse draft than 2010.
The 2010 draft at least netted us a viable player in Alualu (despite being over drafted).
No, the worst Jags draft (and maybe worst ever all time) was Shack's final draft.
I present the 2008 jaguars draft class:
1 8 8 Derrick Harvey
2 21 52 Quentin Groves
5 20 155 Thomas Williams
5 24 159 Trae Williams
7 6 213 Chauncey Washington
Bear in mind, we traded away like a bajillion picks to move up and select Derrick freaking Harvey. Then we paid him like a top ten pick before the new cba.
As you can see, literally no one was a contributor in any way shape or form.
All of this supports the premise many of us here have made repeatedly that it took years to get this bad, and it can't be turned around overnight.

Yes, that was already mentioned.
I'm not sure it's worse because we actually traded Quentin groves for a pick and I'd put Alualu on a similar level with Harvey. They're both ineffective and the best you could say about either of them is they sometimes hold the point.
It's hilarious just how bad the drafting has been here for the half decade culminating in Gene Smith's 2012 draft that landed us a druggy WR and a punter.

Alualu > Harvey and it's not even close.
Quote:Alualu > Harvey and it's not even close.
Is he? He's a nonfactor as a defender, and frequently gets completely moved.
The only difference I see is that when we drafted Harvey we were all still drunk on the Pittsburgh playoff win and had an unrealistic expectation for Harvey and the team in general while Alualu came along during a time of significantly decreased expectations for the team so his failures have blended in with the rest of the failure around him.
I'm surprised Groves is still in the NFL.
Quote:That is arguably the worst draft in the history of the NFL.
Hyperbole is a work of art isn't it?

Harvey has 8 career sacks. I rest my case.

What's your point? Harvey had 8 sacks in 3 seasons and Alualu has 11 sacks in 4 seasons.
Like I said, the best you can say for either one of them is they sometimes hold the point against the run. Both of them were utter wastes of their draft position.

One is a de and the other a dt. But this is a dumb argument, so you win.

Aren't they both DEs now?
Agree with the last point though. Dumb argument. Neither is very good.
