Quote:Maddog, come on man. We need a thousand yard rusher with a rookie qb

He's called Gerhart.

Think Michael Turner when the Falcons signed him.
I like Carey, I think he can be the Alfred Morris of this years draft. Only issue is character.  A while back they were ranking him as a second round talent, and you can't deny what he did in college.

Gerhart won't be Michael Turner.

Why couldn't he be?

Very similar career paths. Very similar RB.
Think Turner.....no way.

Im thinking Toby is Ben Tate. Unproven grinder.

We need a homerun hitter

Wait....do you think Turner was a HR hitter?

I'd like to see us get Kapri Bibbs late.

Just don't see it. Turner was easily one of the best RB's in the NFL for a few years there. I don't think Gerhart will ever get close to that level. I would be very surprised to see him break 1K.
Isaiah Crowell is still there as well.
Quote:Not concerned with the RB position.

We could also still trade a late pick for Bryce Brown.

Also remember that Arian Foster was an UDFA.....and both he and Brown show that you can get really good RB, really late.
I wouldnt mind giving up a 5th for Brown if we dont like the RBs in the draft

Career paths?

We need a 3rd down back to catch 50 balls and move the chains and give those outside backers a match up problem.

Gerheart isnt that back. He is more like that one guy we kept bringing back every preseason to run all the running plays.

Too many character concerns.  Failed a drug test.  Two felony firearm possessions.

Quote:Wait....do you think Turner was a HR hitter?

I think we need to draft a RB to compliment our offensive power house that DC just built.

Toby Gerhart is not a homerun hitter.

What was Turner before Atlanta?,,,,the same thing Gerhart was in Minnesota.

I think Brown for a 5th would be better than any RB you are going to get from the draft at this point. He's still young too. 24.

Yes, career paths. Turner was in a similar situation as Gerhart was in Minnesota, prior to Atlanta signing Turner. Then when Turner got his chance to start in Atlanta he blew up. Why can't Gerhart do the same? They are similar big runners with similar running style.

The Jags also still have Todman as the COP back.

I don't mind adding another RB thru the draft or UDFA, but theres really no rush to add one in the 4th round, thats for sure.

Arguably the best running back in the draft. If he's there at our 5th round pick I'd take the risk. At that point the reward outweighs the risk.
Gerhart has the ability to catch passes out of the backfield, and he's a very patient runner. He could use a nice compliment, but I too see Gerhart having over 1,000 yards rushing and maybe 300 yards receiving. He hasn't had much of a chance to prove he could carry the load, similarly to Michael turner. I think he can.

Toby Gerhart isn't a HR hitter as compared to a Fred Taylor style RB....but that doesn't mean that Gerhart can't be a RB1 that totals upwards of 12-1300 yards and 10 TD in a starting role.

Similar career paths don't mean a thing. I guess every scrub street FA WR is the next Jimmy Smith by that logic....

Have you ever seen much of Gerhart? He's a career 4.5 YPA guy. He's no slouch. He just hasn't had the opportunity to be a full time starter.
