This happens every year. People write off Charlie's reports just because of "lol Walterfootball" and he ends up being right about 75% of it. Campbell is not that idiot Walter.

Charlie was a good draft guy but his work has gone down hill since he went to that site. What news has he broke?

Yeah I see a lot of Beasley in him so it's not a surprise there. To be in the same trio as Beasley and Mack is quite a feat. Age is his only drawback.

 

If we stay in our current 4 slot and Garrett/Allen are gone, and I think we will wind up retaining Cyprien, Williams is hopefully the pick at this point. 

Is Tim Williams really only 6'3 236lbs? That's extremely undersized for a DE.

I can't buy taking a SS that high, unless you know for a fact he is the next Kam Chancellor or something

I've seen him pegged as an OLB in a 3-4 more often than not.

Also, doesn't he play SLB in the current 4-3 scheme of Bama?

I'm a little surprised no one has mentioned a couple of the top CBs of the draft.

If the top 2 Dline guys are gone, and Robinson's off field stuff keeps him from being a top 5 pick...

why not Tabor or Humphrey?

He's 250+. Even the article lists him at over 250 pounds.

He plays DE more in Bama's scheme than OLB. Sometimes he stands up, but most often he's in a 3-point stance.

Not a bad idea just feel like pass rush and saftey are stronger needs

I feel ya there however, top 3 for a safety is risky biz, imo. Unless you know for a fact he's gonna be Earl Thomas, Eric Berry, etc.

I don't like SS prospects that high at all.

 

And I think our pass rush will come on stronger with a more basic approach to the 4-3. Yannick has been a wonderful surprise. If Fowler is half as good I don't see edge rusher being a top priority per se.

Ideally with the top two DL guys gone, I would think OT (safe) or trade down, if someone wants to move up for QB.

If we could get in the bottom 10 and nab an extra pick I'd be OK taking a stab at edge or S with the extra pick being a 2nd where I think a lot of value will be had in this draft.

 

There seems to be (depending on what board you look at) a lot of edge rush prospects so I think there will be good value later for that spot.

He may... I'm saying what I've read is that he's projected as a 3-4 rush backer at the next level.

I think we'll be done with tweener types.

 

IMO, if we get williams, he plays SLB, Jack at MLB and Smith WLB

if a team like ATL were to get him he'd play that silly LEO spot

if a team like TN got him, he'd play OLB.

CBS, Rotoworld, and Bama's site all have him listed as an OLB though, not a DE.

Even if he plays with his hand in the ground sometimes, he's still a LB.

Actually, that's a very good possibility- especially if they don't re-sign Prince. Having 2 shutdown corners and Colvin as nickel would be great since we seem to be very unlucky when selecting pass rushers (Harvey, Fowler, Branch,etc.). Regardless, the pass rush should still be improved next year with Fowler and Yannick having gained a year of experience. A defense of :  Yannick  Jackson  Jones/Marks  Fowler

                                                Telvin   Poz   Jack

                                                     Cyprien   Gipson

                                             Ramsay       Tabor

                                               Colvin (at nickel)

 

I would take this defense any day, especially if Gipson shows improvement. The new coach will have to decide where to play Jack. It would be intriguing to have him as strong safety and to let Cyprien go in free agency. Regardless, I like your thinking on the possibility of a cornerback if Garrett is gone (likely) and Allen is not considered an elite pass rusher. 

 

The remainder of the draft should be offensive line, quarterback in rounds 2-4 ( Mahomes looks like the guy with most upside in the 2nd ) and tight end since Thomas will likely be gone.

No, he's 250+ because I've actually asked my cousin about it since he's a part of Bama's athletic training staff and has been there when he got weighed.


Also, he plays a majority of his snaps with his hand on the ground, so yes, he plays more DE than OLB for Alabama.

Currently, I like Williams over Barnett. If the Jags keep Fowler at DE, which is likely, I think Williams would be a very good pick

I think we have to look at a trade down scenario. Garrett and Allen will be gone. Garrett to Cleveland and Allen most likely to Chicago. There will still be a ton of good pass rushers in the draft, but none worthy of top 8 selections, so why not trade down, add some more picks and take the best available players on the board? We'll find a good pass rusher somewhere in the first 3-4 rounds. It's a deep draft. One guy I saw recently that really impressed me was Harold Landry of Boston College and I'm still a big fan of DeMarcus Walker as well.
