I'll say this too, Bortles definitely throws better on the run than Gabbert. Not close.
Man he has some thin legs though....hope that doesn't lead to leg injuries as a pro.

Is really good and to answer your question the Missouri/Ucf game had Bortles playing under center all game.. Albeit it was not a pretty tape.

They were still risking losing him. Any of those teams ahead of them could have traded back with a team that really wanted Johnny Football. Then another team could jump up for Bridgewater, and then they'd be stuck with 4th choice.

If the Browns had the conviction that Johnny is their guy, they would have been fine taking him at 4 or at 9.
Well come to think of it, The Browns did pass on Manziel twice. Passed on him at 4 and passed on him at 9.

Heard something like he has been to 5 or 6 games.
Honestly, I don't get the Gabbert comparisons. His pocket presence is one of his strengths and he is constantly looking down field to throw the ball. The best comparison to his style of play is Big Ben.
Would any of us, say four or five weeks ago, have been totally shocked if the Texans had selected Bortles #1?
And now the Jaguars have him. I think it's pretty remarkable and we should all be praising the pick.
Praising because it's a no-brainer? No. Because it's a sure thing? No.
Praising because after years of saying we need our guy, we have a GM who went out and did it. And perhaps put his tenure on the line (I don't think that's being overly dramatic.) This seems much different, and better, to me, than the Smith selection of Gabbert.
The NFL is, after all, entertainment - and it's going to be extremely fun to see how all this develops and plays out. And who knows, it may actually work!
