Quote:Who cares what Johnny wants or doesn't want? He has no say in the matter.
A flash in the pan QB isn't going to attract anything. Players are wanting to come to Jacksonville already to play for Gus, and to play in the state of Florida where there are no taxes to eat up a chunk of their income. This is professional football. Players want to play where they're going to get paid.
I don't think I explained myself well on that one. First off, I think the story is irrelevant and I was talking hypothetically. The issues cited in the story was about living in Jacksonville as a city, and had nothing to do with football taxes or playing for the Jaguars whatsoever. It was more about a big fish not wanting to go to a small pond. But does the big fish make the pond bigger is what I'm saying.
And at this point I'm not even talking about Manziel as a QB. He's nearly an A-List celebrity already. Tebow was big, but Manziel's appeal is completely different monster.
I am loving the fact that nobody is giving the tinhorns a RG3 type deal and forcing their hand to make a decision. Talk about pressure.

If true then we should stay far away
How can the league sanctioned website allow official articles like that??? I'd be willing to bet Manziel never said anything like that, especially since he's already been quoted as saying if the Texans do not draft him, he'd love to go to Jax and make Houston pay 2x per season.
Btw, the author of the article's last name is "Goodbread"?? lol
Quote:This is a quote from the NFL.com report:
However, ProFootballTalk reported agent Erik Burkhardt, one of the men who represents Manziel, said Sports Illustrated's report was "not true." ProFootballTalk also reported Maverick Carter, who handles marketing for Manziel, was with Burkhardt at the time of the denial -- apparently some think Carter is behind the idea that Manziel would rather not play in Jacksonville.
I think the leak is from an agent who thinks playing here would be bad for business (meaning the dolla dolla bills y'all). I doubt Maziel said this. How could anyone with Gus in our corner?? Seriously??
GO JAGS!!
That makes sense.
But it should be reported that way, exactly that way and not that "Manziel does not want to play in Jax"

SHhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! don't jinx it.....please.....
still 27 hours and change left.....

lol, people can't actually think he doesn't want to come here. Team that needs a QB, great weather (which i'm sure he'd rather play in nice weather than snow for most months in Cleveland), Gus Bradley who is a coach that basically everyone loves, etc.

His agent is working with LeBron's marketing team to create a Manziel that's bigger than the game, and a global marketing icon similar to James or someone like Peyton Manning.
Playing in the smallest market in the league could jeopardize his earning potential, which I think is a reason to go ahead and draft him. Let's just screw up their grand plans and force him to earn recognition the old fashioned way: by earning it.

And my response is exactly the same. Manziel isn't going to be the draw to this team or this city unless he lives up to expectations. If he flounders, he'll be just another cast-off who thought more highly of himself than he probably should have.
A list celebrity is irrelevant. If he comes into the NFL and falls on his face, guess how long he'll be an A lister? Blink your eyes.

That could work out in the Jaguars favor then, if we do draft him (and he pans out).
The more exposure we get the better.

Yea, I agree it's far fetched. Plus Miami, Tampa Bay, Orlando, Atlanta are in relatively close proximity.
Apparently this is false, but I would have to think that it's a cover up not to make JF look bad.

But my question wasn't how he'll change the city if he's terrible and benched after a few games.

Johnny's already been quoted weeks ago saying he'd embrace playing here.

I don't even think it makes him look bad. Nowhere in the story did it even mention he had any problem with playing in Jacksonville. Just that he'd prefer a "bigger market" city.
Well, I guess one positive from ESPN, they haven't picked up this idiotic story and ran with it. lol
GO JAGS!!

Manning played in a small market, if the player is great nobody cares where he plays

Cam Newton once said before he was drafted that he wanted to be an icon...similar to what you described here.
He was met with derision.
Ultimately, he worked hard enough to improve to become one of the better QBs in the league last year.
If Manziel comes here, we can only hope he will match or surpass Newton on the field.

I just realized if you go to the main page it says Manziel would prefer not to play for Jags, which is completely made up and contradicted in the actual article. Just Wow.
