Tennessee only played one game at this point in time against Houston.  A game they lost in OT.  

 

Tennessee controls their own playoff fate with two games to go,  is 5 point favorites to win in Jacksonville,  and probably will be favorite to beat Houston.

Why would Tennessee be the favorite in Week 17?

Even though the Jaguars are long out of the hunt, a win over the Titans would ease the pain a little.

We have something else actually: a coach doing a two-week audition for prospective employers. Doug Marrone knows his job is on the line.

 Considering that Tennessee is Jacksonville's # 1 historic rival,   I can imagine how good it would feel for you and countless other Jaguars fans if the Jags are the team that keeps Tennessee out of the playoffs.  

 

 Barring unexpected injury information,   I'm planning on picking Tennessee to beat Houston.   One of the most interesting aspects of that game is both teams have very accomplished Defensive Coordinators.   Two of the best over the years.

  That gets back to the previous question about why I think Tennessee will be favorite to win this game barring the injury factor.    The QB position impacts the point spread tremendously.

You can't possibly know about early round busts, late round gems, players unexpectedly slipping into later rounds, and teams trading up and think it is good to lose for higher draft picks.

You're right. Why have draft numbers at all? Everyone should just pick at random since draft position doesn't matter.

I don't understand why there is so much hate for Marrone, he had an opt out in his contract and exercised it... Like most salaried employees do. There was an ownership change and he left. Big deal? He won 9 games with a less talented roster than we have here in his last season with the Bills. Honestly outside of QB/LG/RT/DE we are a very good team. He's not my preferred coach but I wouldn't be up in arms either.

Unless he is a time traveler from the future. Are you 100% certain that time travel is impossible and that if it is possible,that no one from the future is a real enough Jags fan to come back to the past and warn us in such a way that doesn't disrupt the time/space continuum?

I think people were mad at him for that because it sent the message, "I don't want to work for my new boss." I have no problem with it but can understand the logic from an employer POV.

 

You can talk forever about how Doug Marrone won nine games with below average quarterbacks, but that was only one season. We need to see multiple playoff appearances on a coach's resume to trust him as a long-term solution.

And my answer is no, not really.   There's not much a new HC can do in 2 weeks.   Success or failure starts in training camp.   There's no way Marrone can implement any new system, or do anything much in just 2 weeks.   Coaching is a lot more than just standing on the sideline making in game decisions.  That's a tiny fraction of what a head coach does. 

 

Right now, it is what it is.   We play certain schemes, we have certain players, and there's no way you can change that at this point in the season.

I think there are a lot of them.  But apparently, none of them work for the team. 

I think the bigger question is, can we play better on Saturdays?
