Quote:For the life of me, I will never understand the motive behind making bets on guarantees that you post on the internet. Just seems like the biggest waste of time you can possibly have.
Besides posting on a message board about 100+ men that I've never met before. That's kind of a waste of time too.
I've never understood it myself, but if someone wants to throw a guarantee out there citing their "insider" sources, I'm always happy to offer a challenge. How many of these have we seen over the years who claim they know a guy? How many times have they actually known anything?
What little credibility you can have in a forum like this goes right out the window when you start issuing guarantees, and they blow up in your face.

I understand responding to the "challenge", but the odds alone of something as complicated, and with as many moving parts, as the Draft working out any given way are stacked against you in a phenomenally steep way. As for having "insider info", that Prisco article where he follows Caldwell around for a day gave the public insight as to the method that he was using. Caldwell wasn't going to name drop to his
wife let alone anyone who would go and blab about it on a message board.
As I said, just seems like a waste of time to guarantee something like that. Now speaking of wastes of time...

Oh yeah?!?!?!?! I can count to potato... backwards.

Agree with all of the above, which is why I found it quite humorous when someone came to the board saying they knew who the team was going to pick, and that they had it on good authority. The owner of the team didn't know who we were picking until Wednesday night.
When schmucks like Mayock, Kiper, McShay get 6-7 correct picks out of 32, it should send a message that guarantees in the draft are like guarantees to win the lottery.
Manziel would have created energy here. But in the long run, only time will tell.
He will ride the pine, fade away for a while becoming Johnny Backup.
It's Bortles. Time to roll with the Florida homeboy.

Got you beat. I know my alphabet, A through 4.

But if now-vanished know-it-alls weren't around to make idiotic guarantees about things they know nothing about, how would we have any fun around here?

Indeed. Those guys are all very good at breaking down tape (well, aside from McSnot, who sucks at everything), but terrible at projecting picks outside of, I don't know, the top one. They all tend to get that pick right, then it's anybody's guess. I love how Kiper still occasionally brings up the Trev Alberts thing, when he harshly criticized the then-GM (Accorsi?) of the Colts in 1994 for picking Albert over Trent Dilfer, offering up the argument that Albert bombed out and Dilfer won a Super Bowl.
He conveniently forgets the part about how Dilfer was a consistently terrible QB throughout his career, and he had about as much to do with that Super Bowl win as I did. Ray Lewis and the D brought that baby home in a year where at least one member of the Ravens' offense even acknowledged that their goal was 10 points per game and let the defense do the rest. Yeah, some stud quarterback you were thumping the table for, Kiper.

I'm not concerned about finding a new batch of idiots. There's an endless supply of them out there.
