We all know Clowney, Mack and Watkins are the obvious top prospects. Who do you think we'll target if we trade down?
Here are my guesses:
Johnny Manziel - I think Khan, Bradley and Fisch would be happy with this, not sure about Caldwell though. Part of me really wants this pick because I've liked watching him pla in college and most teams are not a good fit for him. We are one of the few that are. I don't believe its likely we get him but I hope he goes somewhere like PHI or DAL that runs his style of offense.
Aaron Donald - At DT we have Marks, Miller (coming off surgery), Hood (who is an unknown) and not much else at DT. Plus, brings extra pass rush.
Zach Martin - Plays all across the O-line. Gives us the versatility to only need one lineman, because weather he plays tackle, guard or center will depend on who earns starting spots in those positions.
Calvin Pryor
Dee Ford - This is of course way down, like to the back end of the round. but we saw how he played in the Senior Bowl. We have enough depth now at DE that we don't really need a starter, just production from the group as a whole.
Gilbert, Ebron, Barr, or Evans.
or obviously Bridge or Manziel, should they fall (unlikely)

If Glazer's report is true, with Cleveland and Oakland passing on Johnny Football, I'm hoping we trade with Atlanta at 6, get us Manziel. I think he is a willing worker, competitior, playmaker, and team leader. I just hope for the sake of life that he pans out

I really feel like there is a huge dropoff in talent after the first seven or so guys, so unless it's for Bridgewater or possibly Manziel, I don't want any part of it. I really have no idea who it could even be at that spot if not a QB, no one else really makes that much sense despite our lack of talent.
Assuming we trade to 10
Ebron? Lewis is still good although getting old and overpaid. Really high for a TE too.
Beckam? We need a WR, but after Evans, it's a huge dropoff.
Dennard or Gilbert? We could use another CB, but not our biggest need.
Clinton-Dix or Pryor? They seem to like Evans well enough even though he isn't great. Aren't these two more of strong safeties anyway?
Barr? I suppose he might make the most sense, but he is definitely a project, he lacks pass rush moves. Besides, what would we do with him? Play him full time at end? He's not like Mack who could play outside backer and LEO, he would purely be a DE and at 250 or whatever, no thanks.
Lewan or Martin? Do we really want another top 10 tackle? Especially after Pasztor seems to be decent.
I just don't see a good need/value matchup after Mack, Clowney, Watkins, and Evans unless it's for a QB.

I understand where you are coming from and I share the reluctance to trade away from superior talent.
But the above is not necessarily true.
If you have scouted properly, and the draft falls right for you, trading down gives you "more bites from the apple," so to speak, and a greater opportunity to add talent.
Two of the greatest drafts in NFL history (1986 49ers and 1991 Cowboys) involved teams that traded down.

You're making the assumption that the players selected at the top of the first are always better. They don't. Is Eric Berry (5) better than Earl Thomas (14)? There's a reason they talk about what the draft would look like if done over years down the road. Its because the order they're drafted isn't actually how they end up playing.

I think Bridgewater will be there at 20. I would not be surprised if he lasts until the second round.

i get your point but if you do your scouting properly you can still a home one. Lots of good players are picked after trade downs.
