With just a few days to go until the draft now, there are definitely some 'interesting' stories going around, supposedly coming from 'inside sources'.

So which ones do you think are smokescreens, started by GMs and their staff ?.

I'm just not buying the one that Clowney has suddenly dropped below Mack for the first time

Having said that, I'd be doing cartwheels if Clowney does drop to us !
Gotta go with the Manziel to Rams at 2... They are trying to trade the pick.
"I dont like Bridgewater" said everyone.
Everything is a smokescreen
Everyone is telling the truth as they see it.   That's the smokescreen.   They know that if they tell the truth, everyone will think it's a smokescreen.   So they smokescreen everyone by telling the truth.

Smokescreen is so overused and pretty much a load of crap. Front offices spend months preparing for a draft and cover all contingencies.

If you want to believe the media, the Texans are going to draft about four different players, the Rams about four, and we're taking about six. Oh...and we're all trading down as well.

The only place 'smokescreens' are real are on message boards. Smokescreens...my lily white tukus.

God, I can't wait for this draft to be over.
I think Caldwell's declaration that Manziel is the only QB ready to play now is a huge smokescreen.

That comment resonated with front offices around the league who are looking at Johnny later in the first round.  It probably sets up a trade on draft day with one of those teams who really want Manziel.

One thing that I found interesting about that particular Caldwell comment was the qualifier that he stuck on the end that rarely gets noticed. From the Jaguars.com article:

<p style="margin-left:40px;">"... Caldwell said the Jaguars wouldn’t have to change the offense substantially for Manziel, adding, 'The plays we call would probably change.'
..."

<p style="margin-left:40px;">

In other words, Manziel has the talent to be on the field but you need to cater to his specific abilities. All of the little pieces that are around this scenario tell me that this is a smokescreen.

Yup.  I think the actual interest in Manziel, especially at #3, is minimal.  But, if they can make a team who wants him a little nervous, it creates a possible opportunity on draft day.
So then what were the comments just last week about Bortles 'taking over the room' and Gus really liking him. Plus Bridgewater being brought in for a second interview. You can't take all three.

Yeah huh!!! Can too!

Smokescreen, smokescreen, smokescreen.

Why can't you take all 3?  It's possible they've been trying to talk up their interest in QBs in order to gin up trade options.  We'll know soon enough.
It could be one of those we trade up and then trade back to where we were at the start drafts? Nobody wants to be stuck with Clowney.

Clowney is already bored with the NFL. Derrick Harvey 2.0 He should start his own franchise.

That's Prisco helping Dave cover up his openness.

The smokescreens are coming from the usual suspects.  Some franchises love to talk nonsense (and analysts, too wanting to fling enough to see what sticks.)

But not here.

I think it's funny how the texans keep waffling.  It's obvious that they'd like to trade the pick, but they've done a pretty poor job of marketing it by their unusual information "leaks."

They've floated that their interest is in either Bortles or Manziel, leaving the door open for teams that might want Bridgewater but that ship has long sailed.

Then they said they wouldn't take Clowney, then they will, now they might... trying to get someone to bite on moving up for him by suggesting their interest may not be as strong in him as it would be a possible trade offer.

And that's their trouble.  Clowney is the guy folks would trade for, but he's a player of the caliber they can't refuse taking.

As much trouble as we've had coming to our likely scenarios (Watkins, Mack, or trade back), I can't imagine what it's like being a texans fan with all this spin.

Why would a GM willingly give out true info to the press? Everything said a week before the draft should be considered a smoke screen.

He's the most pro-ready prospect ever
