Man, what a waste of his talents. The man has the ability to dominant, but he hasn't found a way to keep himself motivated.

What an idiot.
Having said that...I'd sign him as an UDFA.

Some teams don't see marijuana use as that big of a deal.
I'm betting that unless he tests positive for something else, some team will draft Henderson.

It doesn't matter what the team thinks of it since its a league policy.

The league policy is of no consequence here, unless he will be suspended upon being drafted.
Some teams feel that marijuana use is not a big deal, and they feel the odds of the person actually getting suspended for it is low.
Heck, Janorris Jenkins had how many marijuana related incidents in college?!?
The Rams still took him in the 2nd round.

I feel like Jenkins was a top 10 talent that screwed himself, so that explains the risk of taking him early regardless.
If I was a GM, I would be worried that this Henderson guy would keep smoking and thus get suspended. Obviously, taking him as a UDFA would not be a risk.

The part in bold says it all.
For some teams, if a GM thinks a player is sufficiently talented, marijuana use isn't going to stop the team from drafting him.
Other teams will take the stance you articulated at the end of your post.
I agree with you and were I a GM, I would stay away under these circumstances. But not all teams have that philosophy.

I would be concerned about drafting Henderson based on a combination of things, marijuana use being one of them. When W. Sapp failed a drug test prior to the '95 Draft he was widely considered to be a First Round worthy prospect based on his game performance. Henderson, not so much. His play has never lived up to the hype that was around him and his showing at the Senior Bowl seems to reinforce the idea that he is not a hard worker.
The compounded items of Henderson's apparent lack of work ethic added on to his disregard for things that could hurt his draft stock - in this case marijuana - makes me very, very leery of spending a draft pick on him.

Dominate players can dominant games; If you can get a dominate player, you should totally darft one to get him onto your rotser.

While smoking isnt a big deal, youre a moron for failing a planned test.

Then when you begin to pile on the other things such as sub par play, conditioning issues, and lack of work ethic you begin to wonder if his talent is really worth the risk.

If he's not technically in the league yet, I'm wondering if it will have any impact on him. He's not a member of the NFLPA, so he can't be held to the same standard as a player under contract. My guess is he'll be the target of a more aggressive random drug testing protocol, but in the end, if he stays clean, some team is going to to take a shot.

Weed should be eliminated from the list of drugs that are screened at the collegiate and professional level. Leave it to the players to keep out of legal trouble in their respective states. If they get busted then sure, punish them. Not for smoking but for being stupid enough to get in legal trouble for it.
