My personal favorite QB in this years class.

His lightning quick release is just amazing..

I wouldn't be upset if we leapfrogged the Texans and jumped back into rd1 for him.

Okay.

If you're gonna have phantom pressure and crumbling in the pocket issues at a level just below Gabbert's, you gotta have a lot more plus traits than just lightning quick release. He's not big, he's not overly athletic, he doesn't have a strong arm, he's not that accurate, he doesn't have pro style offense experience, his footwork will need lots of work, he has the smallest hands in the class, and like I said the worst pocket presence issues in the entire class.

Supposedly he is incredibly quick witted and sharp in interviews, and that could suggest he can become a good decision maker in the NFL under proper coaching that combined with his fast release could prove to be quite effective in a WCO...but it certainly doesn't translate to the field yet. He is literally just a handsome face, a fast release, and supposedly sharp minded, even though that part isn't even substantiated. I don't see anything that screams legit franchise potential in him.

I would be beyond disappointed if we pass on a Lawrence/Attachou, Adams/Robinson/Latimer, or Martin/Richburg for Garoppolo.

If we are going after a dink and dunk west coast QB, I'd rather we trade back in the 1st and get Bridgewater.

But it wouldnt be the end of the world to get Garop as long as we ended up with Clowney/Mack/Watkins in the first.

No higher than 3rd round, IMO.
I either want Manziel at 3 and then Jordan Matthews at 39 or Watkins at 3 and Garoppolo at 39.
It was a surprise to me to find out that he was invited and is attending the draft.   Based on this, the league must be pretty confident from talking with executives that he will be chosen in the 1st or no later than early 2nd round.

Still don't want Jimmy Garoppolo.  I don't really get what people love about him so much, aside from the fact that the Jaguars are reportedly interested in him.

QB Purgatory.
Nah, I don't even think he has that much potential.
No thanks. Not for drafting qbs with shaky pocket presence.

You're the one who blathers incessantly about watching tape, and according to the tape Garoppolo has been said to look the best.

So, I'll take the opinion of someone in the business over someone who dreams of being in the business every single time.

Yep. If you cant deal with a crowded pocket you are not going to succeed in the NFL. Anyone with shaky pocket awareness is undraftable to me. We have seen time and time again it is not a trait that QBs can develop.

You would think people would learn that quick release/big arm/ideal size is over rated after just watching Blaine Gabbert for 3 years, but I guess some are slow learners.

Oh no, say it ain't so Swag...maybe your favorite in the 2nd or 3rd round, but your favorite of all of them? Say it aint so Swag.

I know that's Jimmy's claim to fame, but hmmmmm....

Quote:"Quick release, yes, but sometimes it’s too quick,” Jim Harbaugh said(at Garrap's pro day). “You want to see him go through [the] whole throwing motion.

Don't do it Swag, there will be just as many good QBs as Garrap waiting for you at the top of round 2. Wink

Why not make your own opinion?
I think Matt Waldman says it pretty well, though I'm not going to say he's 100% credible (nobody is, or they'd be a GM not a scout or a journalist)

Jimmy Garoppolo’s draft stock in the media is gaining steam, but the quarterback is a player whose whole does not equal the sum of his parts.

It reminds me of how people were quickly falling for Matt Scott last year.  They wanted to take him in the 4th round.  (Note: I'm not comparing Jimmy G. and Matt Scott as players)
