Mike Evans would be a pretty big reach at #3.

I'd be surprised if we took a Tackle that we don't need.

Quote:I don't think you're going to see a surprise pick here. This front office isn't going to reach for a player, especially at 3. It'll either be a name god expect, or they'll be trading down.
I agree wholeheartedly.  There is no way they can whiff on a first round pick.  I think the BAP at 3 will be Mack.  BTW, I also think the owner might step up and decide Manziel is the guy.   Who knows?

If they don't like the quarterbacks that high, and can't trade down, it's possible he ends up being BAP depending on who goes 1 and 2.  Plus he fills a need at a premium position.

Evans while big is easily moved by CBs mid catch and has troubles beating the jam so i question the physical part. He has a long stride not built for beating CBs early in the route tree and with his lack of top end speed teams will not be afraid of him going over the top nor will he have a QB scrambling for 5-6 seconds every play while he finally works open against man coverage so i question the beating 1v1's part.

His route running is IMO lazy and smacks of lack of care for the craft. He does not explode out of "cuts" (if you can call his that) and severly rounds off in/out routes. He does have good hands but that wont matter when CBs are draped all over him and like i said he is easily moved for being a big WR. Some bigger WRs take the hit and appear to absorb most of it whereas when Evans is hit mid catch you'd think a train just hit him. This is actually the only known weakness for AJ Green of the bengals as he is easly moved mid catch by hits as well. DIfference is AJ has the explosion, route running and spooky catching ability to make that not matter.

IMO Evans is just like another WR everyone on the board was drooling over who i flamed on this very site and  rightfully so.....Brian Quick.  Extremely raw technique wise , lacks top end athletic ability , easily "bodied" by CBs mid catch , bad route running. Same player and Evans will likely join Quick as being horribly overdrafted.

I didn't see him being easily "bodied" by CB in one on one battles when going up for jump balls like you suggest. I saw him usually win those battles and come up with the catch.

Reggie Williams was an example of a big WR that was usually easy to beat for a CB on one on one jump balls. His inability to jump over a credit card didn't help either.

No one (well, other than the OP) is suggesting we take Evans at 3.

I don't think this owner has ever asserted his will where personnel decisions are made. At least not with Caldwell. He tried and failed with the Tebow pursuit when Smith was here, but he's allowed the football people to make their decisions without his interference since then.

Very true!

I would not like that pick at number three. The draft can't get here soon enough. I appreciate the anticipation for this coming draft like a child waiting for Christmas morning, but the wildly different predictions at times can obscure my enthusiasm. At times I find that I just can't wait for it to end, rather than relishing the anticipation of our new players. I'm going to be a basket case by the time this one is over.

least it was something different.

With the 3rd overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft the Jacksonville Jaguars select..........

Bust.
Yea I was drafted.   But i never knew the water boy was worth pick 3.   But has it's perks.   Get to be by the worlds greatest mascot and ride along with the cheer leaders.

Evans coached by Sullivan would be intriguing.  He's got big star potential with his size/athleticism/ability to get the jump ball.

I hope this isn't the case because I just ordered a home and an away jersey with his name on it.
I think Sammy and Evans will both be good :o
If the Jags stay at 3 either Mack, Clownley or Watkins will be the pick, i do not think there will be a surprise at 3, only possible surprise IMO would be taking Matthews or Robinson

At this point the only thing that would surprise me is offensive tackle or quarterback.

Us old school folks were hardened in the Forge of the dreaded "Tebow Draft".

It'll take you a while, but then you can apply for some really far out Meds and they tend to help.

Someone better tell Johnny Manziel.

As for the player? Like him. But not at 3.

6 or lower? (trade down) Sign me up.
