Just read
this article that AT&T is going to expand it's gigabit internet service to several new cities, and Jacksonville is on the list. Anybody know anything about this or ever had gigabit internet? I'm not even sure what to do with that much speed. Plus it's way too fast for wifi. I remember not too long ago Comcast had a cap of 250 gigs per month. With this speed, you could reach that cap in around 30 minutes I think.
giggidy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
sigh, the only downfall to rural living, I'm still stuck with satellite internet and 10GB a month data caps.
I have 120mbit/sec and it's already glorious. And knowing American ISP's this will likely cost an arm and a leg in monthly fees.

AT&T's internet right now is terrible.
I'm always skeptical of anything AT&T promises. I've been burned by them on more than one occasion for over promising and under delivering. As much as I hate Comcast, they provide a far more reliable Internet service. It's funny because I actually worked at AT&T, and none of my co-workers used their Internet service at the time. They were all Comcast subscribers.
I actually have had AT&T for about 8 months now and there was only one brief period where I had a problem (it was down a few hours, I think i just needed to reboot the modem). I'm not sure I'm claiming they are better than Comcast, but they definitely haven't been worse. I remember I had to reboot my router/modem all the time when I had Comcast. And even though Comcast is technically faster, I haven't noticed any difference whatsoever. In fact, Comcast's speeds routinely would dip to super slow speeds only to go back to normal when I did a reboot.
I have the high end internet service from Comcast.. No complaints at all..

How much does that cost a month?

Mines $80 a month which is ridiculous. I don't know the speed though and when streaming on HBO Go I sometimes have issues. More than I should for $80 a month.

That what I got as well. Haven't had any issues with mine either. We like it. Far and away better than anything AT&T ever gave us.
DF, my wife pays all the bills so I have no clue. Want to say its 120-150 range. Idk. Could be way off.
I'm on a one year introductory rate of like 55 bucks a month. I think after a year it jumps up to around 75 or so.. Not bad actually for the speed I get.
I get 120 down / 6 up for €50/month. That's about 70 USD and it includes TV in HD, although I don't use that because I don't have an HDTV. At least not until the World Cup sales start up.

I have their fastest internet, and it's about $85 or so a month. They threw in free cable with hbo. The tuner is sitting in a box in my garage waiting to go back.

Huh, I think I need to call and start negotiating.

I was thinking the same thing. But then I realized that some areas they offer faster internet than others. So the "fastest" available for person "a" May cost more than the fastest available for person "b".
On the plus side its gigabit internet
on the other side it's att
sooo, no thx

Their call centers are masterful in pitching upgrades. I took their deal to get the fastest internet knowing I was happy with DirecTV and had no intent of even plugging it in.
So do I need to make sure no one picks up the phone while I'm using this new internet?

No this is glassfibre. So you just need to use a mug instead of a glass if you want a drink while surfing on the web.
