My heart says Johnny Football. My head is starting to say Tom Savage. I just started to take notice and I'm am liking what I see. This article I read from 06 was pretty intriguing:
<a class="bbc_url" href='http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/sports/football/draft/2006-04-18-cutler-cover_x.htm'>http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/sports/football/draft/2006-04-18-cutler-cover_x.htm</a>
Jay Cutler had a similar rise then, and I found it interesting that Vince Young was the "Pheonom" (Manziel) and Matt Leinart (Bridgewater) had "the ability to run a pro style system to perfection".
I think Manziel and Bridgewater will have better careers than their counterparts in 06, but it is crazy how similar these guys are to the 06 draft and there wasn't really a consensus #1 QB then either.
JFF without a second thought..
Trade up to pick 25 and take Carr
If Johnny is there at the late 1st round, i would make the trade up, same with Bortles i would not trade up for any other QB as at 39 Mettenberger, Groupo ( spelling) would be my pick.
Quote:I take the best value QB I can get later in the draft with my multiple 4th and 5th round picks and build the roster early. It's not popular but I wouldn't mind going Mack and then taking the best guard on the board in round 2.
This came up in another thread.
When were QBs excluded from rosters?
Why is drafting a QB doing something other than building the roster?

You realize that you're gonna fry some wiring with those two questions, right?

I'm not sayng he is a sure thing....and I didn't say 1st round....
I find it funny that you fanboys feel that your guy is the only answer and everyone else is just "QB purgatory". If NFL teams don't get it right a majority of the time, what makes you so sure?
Drafting someone like Mack above Manziel is just colossally stupid. Manziel would impact every single play we run on offense.
Sometimes I feel like Jags fans just don't understand how important a good QB is because they never really had one outside of maybe Brunell.
There are a handful of teams that must find a good QB before they can ever be a good team. The Jags fall into that group. Why you'd pass on the best QB prospect at #3 in that situation is beyond me.
I hear I can get Bridgewater in the 4th or 5th, so I'm taking him in the 3rd.
MANZIEL at #3.
That's assuming he's still on the board.
For my money, I'm taking an elite positional player at #3.
If I'm in love with one of the qbs after that, I'd try to trade up above #26. I'd be surprised if Oakland, Minnesota, and Cleveland (in that order) don't take 3 of the top qbs in round 1. But I'm content to wait til #39 and take McCarron, Mettenberger, or Garrapolo. If there's a WR or OL available there that I have rated higher, I'd take him there. Then I'd wait til round three where I think I can still get McCarron, Mettenberger, or Murray. I'm not picking Bridgewater until at least round 4. He's the least good of the top eight.

Jay Cutler and Tom Savage both share elite arms. The difference is that bad Jay Cutler's bad decisions come from him forcing passes into tight windows. Bad Tom Savage's bad decisions are from panicking and throwing the ball anywhere he can when he's under pressure.
This fan boy stuff is out of hand. If someone doesn't like a prospect that you like it makes them a fanboy of the prospect they like? Obviously they have to like someone.
On topic, I'd take either Bridgewater or Bortles between 5-10. They've been neck and neck to me every step of the way, so I might be leaning more Bortles now after a better Pro Day. I'd be happy with either. Manziel, I feel is a second rounder, but if we were to get him late in the first I wouldn't be upset unless we overspent. I recognize that JFF has a high boom/bust factor and would be ok with taking the risk as long as we don't put all of our eggs into that basket. Carr is a second rounder to me because of less than ideal pocket presence and the fact that he was a system quarterback in school.
Mettenberger in the 3rd and then Murray with one of our 4th round picks. Boom!

I disagree, I think Bad Tom Savage is the same as Bad Jay Cutler, they both try to force things when the play starts to break down or protection collapses.
As far as the Fanboy stuff, it has nothing to do with liking another prospect over another. I like a lot of prospects more than I do others. But I am not going to act like someone is definitely going to be a star and others aren't, just because because you would take them before my guy....

I don't know that Mettenberger will be there for us in the third. I think he'll go sometime late in two to a team that's hunting for a developmental prospect if he isn't taken sooner.
Honest question.
How can so many believe that Texans will take a QB at #1, but then Jaguars can't take a QB at #3, because that "will be too high to take any QB in this draft"? I can't figure it out.
I've seen some very intelligent posters on these boards do mocks, have us passing on MAnziel, Bridgewater, ect at 3, and then have the Browns just one spot below us take Manziel, and then have the Vikings just another 2 or 3 spots down take Teddy. huh?!
IMO, the Jaguars are the most QB needy team of them all. If #1 is not too high for a QB to the Texans, #4 is not too high for a QB to the Browns, etc, etc, why is #3 considered "too high" for a QB to us?
Just trying to understand some of the logic and reasoning on these boards.
