*On whether a quarterback is worth a top-five pick this year: “That’s what we’re [examining] now. Dave [Caldwell] and the scouts have taken a hard look at it and our coaches are extremely involved in it. We’re still gathering a bunch of information and the evaluation is never over – it will go up to draft day.”

*On Johnny Manziel: “You know me -- I love spirit. We drafted guys last year like Ace Sanders and Denard Robinson and Johnathan Cyprien, guys who have a lot of energy and spirit. And when I went to see Johnny work out and watched his tape, he plays with that same sense of spirit and he showed it off at his Pro Day. To talk to him and visit with him one-on-one, he’s very passionate about the game, very competitive and very unique.”

*On Khalil Mack: “We had a chance to visit with him … and just put on the Ohio State film and watch him compete and watch the energy level he plays at. He’s one of those guys you feel is going to play for a long time. Just extremely talented. There are so many different positions you can plug him into.”

*On Jadeveon Clowney: “First of all, when he walks into the room, you take notice of who he is as a person but physically and his appearance, you don’t see many guys built like him with that size, speed and agility. To sit down and talk to him and find out his passion for the game and how good he wants to be, you’re always looking for that guy who wants to be great. That comes through from him when you talk to him. He may need direction, but that’s our job as a coaching staff. He’s very hungry for that direction.”

*On Sammy Watkins: “Anytime you get an opportunity to draft somebody that can help put points on the board, you take a strong look at him and that’s what he does. Just a great person – he really lights up a room when he comes in. The quarterbacks, when they have an individual like Sammy to throw to, they light up and it affects the whole team.”

Is it just me, or is asking Gus a question about a football player the same thing as when Homer was a food critic?
Well great, based on this we'll be drafting all of them at 3.

They're the same innocuous answers we can expect this time of year...but seriously, Bradley might be the most positive person I've ever heard of.

wait so he said he likes all of the top 3 prospects in the draft, shocking!  In other news water is wet.

its exactly like that. or hearing gruden during a game. the guy loves every single player. "ill tell you what! that guy is just a flat out football player!" .......thanks gruden.....
Gus can find something positive to say about almost everything.

'This guy is the best in the league at doing this one specific thing'
He is starting to sound like Jon Gruden
At least Gruden's a SB winning coach though.

I love how Gus being positive in his analysis is a bad thing to some folks.

But that's what I want in a coach. I want a guy that looks at a player and sees what his strengths are and what he can do to be better. Because if you start focusing on what a plyaer can't do, then you're limiting yourself and him both. There are no perfect players out there, so you had better learn how to work with the imperfect ones.

I didnt mean it as a negative. I just thought it was funny.

Even if there are negative aspects about a player, you're never going to hear a guy like Gus exposing them in the media.  It's not who he is.
Lol is he gonna say something to be detrimental to a prospects draft status? Or anything that would tip other teams to our scouting process or draft board? Id think not myself and this is just easy coach speak.

He has to keep a full professional appearance and i can bet some money when he and caldwell sit down to discuss draft picks they are much more colorful and direct with their conversations.

On Johnny Manziel /

In front of the cameras: "You know me we love spirit. He's very competitive and passionate about the game we love that kinda stuff"

In the War Room with Caldwell: "He doesnt hit that back foot properly about 30% of the time. Thats an issue. Look right here i like his eye movement. Not a fan of that bail from the pocket on 3rd and 8. Solid arm but he needs some work on decision making. Well maybe more than just some Dave but you get the idea. Where is his head at on this play? You think Houston has him over Bortles? I need to see more of X from him on X read but it can be fixed" etc etc.

You will likely never see the bottom type of conversation on a NFL network or ESPN from ANY GM or HC in the league. THey all do it because its a big poker game.

That's why Gruden is a terrible analyst.

Im actually not annoyed by Gruden

i find it annoying just because i know players have their strengths and weaknesses. i also know its the coaches job to be positive. im just saying that when he talks i take it with a grain of salt. not being negative.
What would Bizarro Gus say....?

"I hate all those rat bastards!  Keep em the hell off my team!"
