Interesting part of this....
How high can that "conditional" pick get?
Suppose (unlikely) Gabbert starts the entire season for SF, can our other conditional pick escalate to a 4th rounder or so?

That's what I thought when I read it too! Maybe they thought they'd also get away with it! :woot:

There you go again, acting like you're better than everyone else. Shocking.
"Also get away with it."? Read the latest reports. There appears to be less there than initially reported, at least re Kap. (TMZ sensationalizing something? Never!)
Hope you're never on jury duty.

Quote:I'm not saying it's a crime. Never even suggested it.Some random person making a claim would not get them put them in the program. If that were the case, people would be making false claims all the time against the players on teams they don't like just to increase the chance of them getting suspended.
But it might be enough for the team and/or NFL to put the players in the program if they want to.

A failed test or a "behavior" issue such as a drug-related arrest will put a player into Stage One of the league's intervention program. There is no discipline such as a suspension in Stage One; a player is instead subject to additional testing and a treatment program at the discretion of the league's medical director.

The rules are vague enough that the owner or league could put possibly them in the program. I don't believe it even requires an arrest (the quote gave merely one example that was, which isn't all encompassing.)
Again, not a good situation to put themselves in.
Unless there is some credible evidence the NFLPA wouldn't allow it. A statement from some person, especially one who was admittedly under the influence, would not be considered credible evidence.

Quote:That's the potential problem I'm taking from this. You got it. And Kaepernick and his agent are looking for a deal. Supposedly in the 18-19 million a season range. Would an owner feel good about giving up that much money on a guy who potentially was involved in this? I don't think so.
Even if nothing comes of the investigation, the 49ers now know two of their players were witnessed in possession of marijuana.

This isn't "some random person," this is someone who has been intimate with him in the past. Her statements are sworn. They will do their own investigation as well. They are well within their right to use their own discretion in putting them in the program.
Remember, the program was designed to ease them in. They aren't being punished at the first step, just more scrutinized.
If you don't think an incident like this may result in more scrutiny, then you're more naive than you've ever proven to be before.

They will be asked about it, deny it, and it will be dropped because it will be the word of three people against one person who was admittedly drinking.

If you think the NFLPA would let them be pushed into a program over that then you are the one who is completely naive as to how unions work.
