Quote:That's the tricky part with Mettenberger; was his improvement this past season simply due to a fluke type of jump or was it because he got some high level coaching? He's got all of the tools that he needs to succeed at the next level, but will he put all that potential into action?
That's why he's flying to Jax

Gus and Dave will find out if he really wants it
I've said before but I remember being at the spring game where Murray and Mettenberger were battling it out to win the starting job. And Mettenberger was head and shoulders the better player. But then he went and pulled a Roethlisberger while hanging out in Valdosta. Would have been interesting to see how their careers played out if Mettenberger hadnt make that mistake. Would he have spent 4 years as a starting QB under Richt, put up a bunch of numbers, and be flirting with a first round pick? Would he have gotten injured at some point allowing Murray to spell him as the backup potentially creating a QB controversy? Or would Murray have gotten fed up and transfered... maybe back home and become the USF starting QB.
Murray seems like the 2nd/3rd day QB you take if you want a great team player, a guy who will help the starter read defenses from the sideline, and who would be just good enough to help a team not go in the tank for a few games while the starter is injured. But you've got the understanding that the odds of him turning into a fulltime upper level NFL QB is almost zero.
Mettenberger seems like the 2nd/3rd day QB you take if you want a guy who has the potential to be a fulltime upper level starting NFL QB with the understanding that he most likely will not develop into that guy as most guys drafted 2nd/3rd do not. But atleast he has the chance to.

This is pretty spot on. Murray is a guy you want on your roster and on the Sideline. Mettenberger is the guy you want on your practice field and in the film room doing work.

Yes. Thank you.

Why would you say that? He has all the tools necessary to play at a high level and is the perfect developmental prospect in my eyes. His ACL injury is a blessing in disguise because he really would benefit from learning from the bench and getting an understanding of the game at the next level.
I think we would have to take Mett with our second round pick, which I am fine with. I wouldn't be shocked if Mett isn't there when we pick in the second round.

I like the way you put that.
Mettenberger in the third would be nice.
mettenberger is not ever going to be anything in the nfl. career back up just like mallett.
also i cant believe anyone compared him to bledsoe....

Nah man Mett has a chance to be really good.
But yeah that Bledsoe comparison had me saying "what??"

Um, what...meaning you guys actually
liked Bledsoe???
Good Lord.
:yucky:
If Mettenberger compares to him, please pass....

Even if you don't like Bledsoe, the sad thing is we haven't had anything on that level since Brunell.

I understand that...but jeez, doesn't mean we have to settle for
that.
I'm sure someone will post Bledsoe's empty yardage totals or something and try to make a case for that Yeti abomination.
No one was ever going to win a SB with Bledsoe.
I like Mett better than Bortles. Bring him in Dave.
Quote:They do have similarities that's for sure. I like that Mett has good touch on the ball when needed.. Better than Mallett. Also he's a better character kind of guy.
Better character? Probably a draw if not in Mallett's favor. I have said he's my pick to be a round 2 steal, character is not a strong point. He's had some pretty big issues with women.
If we pass on a QB in one and trade back in two, I'd be very comfortable with Mettenberger.

Thanks for the heads up!

Dude what? I said "what??" as in he doesn't compare to Bledsoe at all. Your trippin.

Why? Genuinely curious of your answer.
So Manziel has a couple drinks and he has bad charecter, Mettenberger does the same and he's just being a kid in college.
